Hi,

I seem to be getting a low score when i benchmark my radeon 8500. On default in 3dmark 2001, the highest i can get is 5480. Is this what i should be getting? I have an athlon 1.1ghz 200mhz fsb, 512 pc133 sdram, windows xp, abit kt7a motherboard. I also heard that windows 98 is better for graphics... is this true? Thanks for your help and time.

Your score seems a bit low, I also use an 8500 and XP and I definitly noticed my scores dropped a few hundred points using XP over 98.

Make sure you have the latest drivers and maybe read This (http://discuss.madonion.com/forum/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=techdisplayadapters&Number=375&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=1) (some of the links are dead ends but theres some info)

ps Are you clocking your Radeon up a notch with Powerstrip or similiar?

Hmmm... getting weird scores from everyone I talk to. Head of our RMA dept is the only one at work that uses an ATI card(Radeon 8500), and he's getting scores well over 6000. But, he's also using the corperate version of XP. I've had nothing but problems with them, while doing OEM installs of XP, "Home" and "Pro" versions "French" and "English". There's only 3 versions of the Radeon drivers, for XP that I know of. There's also nothing avalible to DL on the OEM system builder site at Micro$oft. So you're not alone. As soon as I hear from MS, I'll post.

Nooo, that canīt be right. I got XP(home, swedish version) and Radeon 8500LE too, and so far I havenīt seen below 8000 in Sysmark2001.

I do have a faster CPU(Xp1700), DDR memory and a better chipset(KT266A), but I cannot belive that would make a difference of almost 3000 points(my top is 8630).

Maybe you could update your driver?

regards,
Henry.

Welcome to the Forums Joebeem...(if I haven't said it already)

What's the clock on your 8500... there's a bunch for the oem's... As mentioned you should update your drivers... make sure nothing is running in the background...defrag... "Tweak it" is what I say... Personally I noticed an increase in 3dmark 2k1 points after switching to XP...:D

I'm got 200points more when I tested 3dmark2001 on windowsME than XP, I'm going to install winXP home tomorrow and I will post the results tho, I'm using 8500OEM flashed to 275 retails clock/memory speeds.. :

Honestly, I would say check your cmos settings, your AGP apreture size etc ..

try overclocking the cpu a bit....SDRAM and a 1.1GHZ CPU is much slower than what these other people have...my friend with a PIII733 and an OEM 8500 clocked at 280/500 gets 5000 3dmarks so youre not too far off.....

Thank you for all the replies. I have the latest drivers from Ati's website. Also, I have a program called Rage3d Tweak v 3.0 beta 3 and within that program i have the ability to overclock the card. The core clock is at 249.8mhz and the memory clock is also. Should i attempt to overclock it without changing the crappy fan that is on the card? Thanks.

As long as you donīt change the voltage settings(not possible without modification), temperature shouldnīt rise.

Henry.

try to run both at 275mhz, and run a few times 3dmark 2001, if u don't see any artifacts, then flash ur bios and try higher , if u start seeing artifacts, do a vmem mod and take ur memroy to around 300mhz.
