the newegg specs show it as supporting DDR2 1200, have any of the latest bios versions brought it to DDR3 1600. Or will it support that, just unofficially?
 
DDR3 will not work on that board, its a DDR2 only board. you would need to find one that says it supports both. as the slots the ram slide into are keyed differently between DDR2 and DDR3.
 
BIOS is software, DDR3 is harware. the newest software will always suport the newest hardware,, but you need the newest hardware to utilize the newest hardware...

there are a few transition faze mobo's out there that support both ((ddr&ddr2)(ddr2&ddr3)) but are verry uncomon due to their high price tags seeing as they are always the first of the wave so to say.
