View Full Version : Watercool HT Extern Triple - Any good?
REUSED OLD THREAD.. Ignore the first few posts :)
I'm looking for an enclosed 360mm rad to mount to the top of my case and this one caught my eye. Anyone know anything about the rad in this enclosure? Specifically... Does it expose the coolant to aluminum? In the description it says "Material: Pipes copper, fins aluminum"...
The description also states: "Connection: 2x thread G 1/4" " ... but it has the option to add 1/2" barbs... ..would it bottleneck an all 1/2" system?

first link doesn't work. it's fixed here

from reading there is no aluminum touching the water. it looks decent but who knows.
the G1/4 refers to the thread size, not the barb size. its the most common thread out there. it doesn't relate the barb size and thus will not restrict with a 1/2" system.
what are you wanting to cool with the rad?
Thanks for the heads up on the link.. fixed.
For now, I just plan on cooling the CPU (in sig). I'm going water cooled this summer (first attempt at it), so expect more questions from me as I IS WATA NOOB.
I plan on pairing it with an Alphacool Yellowstone block so I'll be able to use the same setup when I make the move to i7. I'll try and pick up a good pump and res in the classifieds here.

I just can't say that rad is any good. A rad has to be capable of removing xx heat. What is that rad? Any specs at all or reviews on the rad?
I'll call it eye candy in a pretty box. We don't watercool for eyes, we watercool FIRST for good temps. It could be a terrible performer and just crap in a pretty box.
I know what is good, and will stick with that till I see more.
For that price, you can any of the best 320 rads that are PROVEN to work well. Hell, you could get 2x MCR320's and fans to boot.

Here is the rad sold in EU at a site. It might be pretty good, but just dunno.

Did some deep digging for you.

So not too shabby. If YOu have to have the bling, yea.
Awesome job prowling the interwebs Conumdrum.
At low fan speeds it seems to hang pretty close to the Thermochill... Starts to lose ground at higher volume though. From what I can gather on page 10, its built pretty well.
I'll be honest, I'm willing to pay a little more for bling (although in this case its more like "clean" than "bling", so I'll probably go ahead and get this when I'm ready to start buying... If its still around then...
I know... Major thread flashback...
Not trying to be annoying, but the two best ways to learn are by DOING and ASKING.. since asking is a lot cheaper I'll do that first
Anyway, I've tossed the idea of using the watercool extern thing.. the unknown factor is to great for me to feel comfortable gambling that much money on it. I have some experience with composites so I'll just buy a good rad and build my own enclosure for it.
SO, which of these two rads is the better buy? Not necessarily the better performer, just price to performance...
Feser X-Changer 480mm (http://www.jab-tech.com/Feser-X-Changer-Quad-120mm-Xtreme-Performance-Radiator-pr-4279.html)
Black Ice GTX 480mm (http://www.jab-tech.com/Black-Ice-GTX-480-Radiator-pr-3614.html)
Specifically, is there anything that makes the feser worth the extra $20?
thanks

the feser is better, IF, you want silence. it has a lower FPS so you can use low speed fans.
and thus i show you the XSPC RX480 Quad Rad (http://www.jab-tech.com/XSPC-RX-480-Quad-120mm-Radiator-pr-4430.html). 124.99 and it has low FPI like the feser. it won't perform as good (couple of degrees) but of them all i would grab the feser or XSPC one.
but i believe the GTX will outperform the 2 other rads with high speed fans, but again by a couple of degrees.
I'll get the GTX then, as all the fans I already have are 2000+rpm. I should probably buy a fan controller while I'm at it...lol
Thanks

check out this review all of the rads you listed are in it. accept its triple 120mm but it gives you an idea.

EDIT: feser isn't in there, but its on par with thermochill.

Zagi, thats a pretty good choice since you already got higher CFM fans. Turn em down when you need to. Many of us parellel all the fans on a rad and only have one wire going to the controller, leaving the other fan channels open for other stuff. It's easy to do with a cheapo soldering iron and some heatshrink.
If you must go with a 480 rad, thats your cheapest option. And if your way below the total load capacity, you can really make those fans quiet.
I'd say your good.
