sounds like you should be able to run l4d my best guess is medium settings possible some high. You got a solid gpu so should not be much of a problem.:welcome:

i have a q6600 and an 8800gt, i run l4d at 1680x1050 at 4xAA 16xAF and all settings at max and virtually never go below 60 fps (average is like 80). I imagine you will be able to play at near maximum settings.

I have a e6300 with no OC and a 7900GT and I can run 16x10 at medium.

I can run l4d on a pentium mobile 1.67ghz, 9600 32mb vram and 1 gig ram on low-high at 1024x768 with fps over 25; you'll be fine.

I can run Portal and CS:S at low settings at 1280x800 on a Celeron M 1.5Ghz and a Radeon Xpress 200M, an 8800GT will eat the source engine up.

u should be just fine. I run it at almost full graphics with 4x everything. Worse my fps drops to right now is 35ish with a horde and all kinds of crazy stuff going at once.

I got mine oc'ed to 2.75 now tho lol not that it makes a huge difference. Still working on it just got my water cooling :)

but games runs just fine with awesome graphics. Only thing i skimp really on is res i do 800x600 lol but i do that in all shooters it actually feels werid to play in anything bigger like my eyes can't handle all of the stuff to see.

HL2 engine is heavily dependent on the CPU, and C2D's are easily overclockable. I would hit 2.8-3.0 ghz, that'll let you get a really nice fps increase.

Spot on. If a 9800GTX M can run the game as well as my buddy's laptop does, so can an 8800GT which should be 2 or 3 times faster still...

Nope, I think your evaluation is way off. :(

It's also incredibly forgiving. My 3800X2 at 3Ghz is probably about as good as his C2D at 2.13, if not a little bit behind... and I run it just fine with a Core 216. An 8800GT is a much closer match for my system and I still might have to lower the AA only a little bit.
