Better performance after switch from AVG to Antivir

Does anyone else have such experience? That web browser responds better, web pages load faster with Antivir instead of AVG as the anti-virus of choice?

I just uninstalled AVG 8.0 on my laptop, and I was going to replace it with AVG 8.5. Then I thought I'd give Antivir a try. Turn out now I feel that the use of Firefox is much smoother.

Does AVG slow down the browsing processes with its "real time protection" or whatever? Or was my "feeling" playing tricks?

It may be a by-product of the safe web feature. AVG 8.x checks pages to ensure that they are not known to host virus/malware.

try uninstalling all antivirus and firewalls as a "trial period" and see how much better it is yet.

anti doesnt do this, so it will perform faster.. you can turn it off and they will perform about the same speed
