Ok, I have seen on the front page about the goodness of the XP 1600+ :D . These are 110$ range on newegg.com, not sure about pcnut. I was wondering if anyone knew if the ones on newegg are AGOGA or not? I am thinking of upgrading to this processors since it is so cheap. I have a tbird 1.4 currently.

The reasons I want to upgrade are: Does anyone know if this processor has the AGP and memory page bug? I want to lower temps even a little from my tbird. And lastly, is it going to be tons more stable? I would think so if it fixed the bug that a lot of AMD processors have, of course I know you can fix it with lowering the memory page back down to 4K, but I think OS solutions for processors are kludgy :D All questions answered would be most appreciated :D

hmm if i were u i would wait.... going from a 1.4tbird to a 1.4palamino u wont see much difference...... on the good side tho u will have added sse support, run a bit cooler, and should overclock a bit further. as for your questions i dont know

Does that Abit KG7 have the KT133"A" chipset?
or the 266/266"A"?
if it does, have you tried H~Oda's cooling hack? (reg 52-EB/EC)

It has worked Fantastic for me on all my "133" boards.

Anything over $75 is pricy for me. :( (poor gov't worker)
$110? for the same speed? (1.4) Save ur $ and get the next step up maybe.

I don't want to talk you outta it, but think hard about it 1st.

$ is a terrible thing to waste.
(especially if it's yours!)

Good Luck.

The KG7 uses the AMD 761 Northbridge and the ever popular 686B southbridge from VIA. I have a 1600+ @ 1.6GHZ on it and its rock solid.

For the info of anyone reading this, the register 52 tweak only works on these chipsets: KX133, KT133 and KT133A. KT266 and KT266A have a similar tweak but it's different values and different registers.

OK, u lost me there, I have the KT133A chipset, so I'm interested in what the patch helps? what problems/bugs does it solve? And most important where do I get it?

There is a program called Vcool that will enable the "patch" for you. What it does is it allows for the HLT command to be run on the proc. That way, when the cpu is idle, it will be "disconnected" from the system bus and go into a low power state. All this does is lower the idle temp and can sometimes take a degree or two off of the load temp. I used it for a little bit and liked it, but I found that my comp is more stable when I leave the cpu idling is disabled.

Does anyone know if this stepping has fixed the agp and page bug? And what are your temps with this processor? I do not mind spending the money if the processor is more stable than my tbird.

I just wanted to make sure, because I don't trust too much what is said on slashdot, but they did say that it affected windows as well. I trust overclockers forums more than slashdot :D
