HELP!!! 4870 need some advice .

OK I just got my first of 2 PowerColor HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 video card some things are taking place that I need some help with first off MAN THESE CARDS ARE HOT !!! I have ramped up the cards fan speed to full ( 100% ) and at an Idle I get GPU diode 44c ( shader ) 48 GPU Mem IO 46 GPU Diode ( DispIO )
They go as high as 68c and man is it HOT ! it has this Professional cooling system Optimized by ZEOtherm . Should this card get this hot ? my GTX260 don't get even 60c ! and I have also found that this card when it starts up seems to go through " Blinking " and in Cysis it also "blinks " ( The screen that is ) strange I have never experienced this with ANY Nvidia card I have owned and what do I do now ? I want to get this card to run as cool as possible but with the fan at 100% it is not getting any cooler ! I have drivers 9.4 installed so what do I do ? any one have any suggestions for me ? :confused:

Hmmm.... that does seem hot at 100% fan speed, I've owned 2 4870 1g cards, a Diamond & an HIS, both were reference cards with stock cooling. Neither ran that hot with the fan turned up to 100%, more like 40% temps. Though they are good to go up to 80 deg. c. or so, 68 load with heavy overclock isnt really that hot. But at 100% fan speed thats probably not good.

Not sure what to tell you, maybe different driver 9.3 see if there is a difference, or swap out your cooling for aftermarket. What case are they in? Do you have decent air flow through the case? Maybe a spot fan will help.

Well I do not have the card over clocked just yet and the case you can look at in my sig click the link .

EVERY ATI card I have ever owned has run hotter than hell it's self ! WHY ?
Should I take the HSF off and put on some AS5 ? or what ?

Something doesnt seem right, mine would never get that hot at 100% fan speed. I usually ran 60% with rivatuner (CCC didn't have fan control then) and if I was gamming for hours I would have to go to 80% to keep under 70 deg c. Currently my card is under water and never goes over 55 deg c.

If card still runs hot with rivatuner, than yes, change out the TIM, if that doesnt work consider RMA or aftermarket cooling.

Yes the temps are that . I will try replacing the TIM first then see what happens . But every time I get an ATI card they all run so fing HOT this never happens with Nvidia !
And the blinking still happens !

OK maybe not for some one that has had ATI cards all the time . But going from a card that gets no hotter after 16 hours of full on gaming in crysis and never got higher than 60c it is . I just can understand why the installed so called after market cooler is no better in cooling it down as it really IMHO should be .

Once you get close to 90c, or higher, then you can say it's hot. :soda: 60-70c load temp is well within normal operating range for a 48x series of cards and more than safe. :)

OK well I got 3dmark06 to run once again had to install the hot fix . any way now while running it I am not impressed at the score I got with this card overclocked to 790/1090 I am getting this .

WEAK ! I thought that it would do far better than this . and while the tests were running the screen flickered a lot ! this kind of sucks ! why all the flickering ? what is going on with the ATI cards I seem to get ? every time I get them they are less than any Nvidia crad I have ever had !

I mean come on this is a blow out ! and since Intel did not make a SLI mobo ( Intel chipset that is ) this SUCKS !

And while the tests were running I seen MASSIVE screen flickering WTF is up with that ? I never once had this happen with ANY Nvidia card ! What is going on? Is ATI just that BAD ?

I see the flicker you talk about in benchs with my 4830 . I did not see it on my 8800gt . But it doesnt show up in games @ all .

And I have found that 06 is a bit lower but vantage is Higher .

Crysis on ultra high has @ least 5+ fps .

OK !! solved the flickering problem , Well Rivatuner did ! installed rivatuner and set every thing there fan speed clock speeds and I did not see any flickering at all ! Score even went up some to 17619 not a huge increase but a increase never the less .
