DUCT FANS:
http://www.clasohlson.se/images/products/S/lo/A/HD3_323122A_S.jpg
!
See if I get this right: CFM is cubic_feet_per_minute?
That would mean that 1 cuft is: 0.3*0.3*0.3=0.027 liters.
These duct fans come in two version(from this retailer): 160m3/h and 370 m3/h. That would translate into 2667/6167 l/min
=>98777 / 228407 CFM
I actually have one of these(used it for a indoor greenhouse application...;) ), but could these figures really be right?!?
regards,
Henry.

It seems to be really stronger, but do you have info about the noise in db?
Your figures are way off - it's really much smaller numbers.
a liter is 1000 cubic centimeters (or 10 by 10 by 10 cm)
thus, a cubic foot is actually:
33*33*33 cm = 35937 cm3 (or just short of 36 liters.)
and _not_ 0.027 l.
a cubic meter equals 1000 liters:
100*100*100 cm = 1000000 cm3 (or 1000 l)
to translate from cfm to l/min you need to multiply by:
1000000 / 35937 = 27.826
and to translate back:
35937 / 1000000 = 0.0359
160 m3/h * 27.826 / 60 min = 74.2 cfm and
370 m3/h * 27.826 / 60 min = 171.6 cfm
hope this can help!

First post & your already helping people great job.
Henry Rollins II - That would be impossible. You wouldnt be able to hear yourself think if your numbers were correct.;)

Those are like the figures a Harrier jet puts out!
And the fan would have to be HUGE!!!!

A liter is a little bigger than a quart(1/4 of a gallon--US measurement). Some of the figures posted in this thread seem incorrect.
sonny's final calculations seem to be correct.
Using the less powerful ducted fan to "feed" a CPU would be extremely effective. As a case fan, the less powerful fan would be adequate(maybe not!) for an OC'd P3E box.
The more powerful fan(as a case fan) would be fine for an Athlon box that is OC'd to the maximum. IMHO.

Come on guys!
doesn't seem to be too much extreme?

The correct answer is:
1 Cubic meters equals 35.3147 Cubic feet.
370 Cubic meters equals 13066.4 Cubic feet.
The fan pushes 370 Cubic meters per hour, which equals 13066.4 Cubic feet per hour. so to get CFM you need to divide 13066.4 by 60=217.77333 CFM:D

So at this point is better to go with a Comair fan 172mm 235Cfm! but we have to consider the noise too!!!

The Comair is only 45-55 Dba. Most of us here could handle that. Cause alot of us use the Delta fans and the are loud and annoying. Then you have the guys who put anywhere from 5 - 19 fans which is way louder.

You say right, but where do you have your Box, out of the door?! :D

Right beside me. With a 80mm 68c.f.m. Delta, a 120mm 131c.f.m YS-Tech, 2 80mm 50c.f.m. Sunon and two 80mm 25c.f.m. fans for exhaust and a slot fan for exhaust. Plus the one in my PSU.

The mine too, and the fans are listed in the Signature, LOL we are really a crazy gang, but we take really a lot of fun! :burn:

True we are a fun pack ain't we, but some of us are just weird.

LOL!!
Well, I certainly got the numbers wrong this time. One cubic feet is: 3x3x3= 27 liters.
That would mean that the fans have
1. 100 cfm
2. 230 cfm
Not very impressive this time. :(
I still think these fans would be great though: they make almost no sound.
A 230.000 cfm fan would be intresting; it would propably blow your head right off yer shoulders. :D

Henry.

Don't worry Henry, this is really an interesting thread,
do you have more info about the noise that these duct fans produces?

18 dB for the small version, 30 dB for the big one. Pricing $60 and $100. I own the small one, you can hardly hear it when it is running.

Henry.

I guess I'm a little late, but this (http://www.onlineconversion.com/) might help in the future.

Jeez, air cooling with this kind of CFM is insane. Why do people like Deltas and Sunons? I can understand some people liking the noise, but aycarramba. That duct fan would work. I don't know where'd you put it though.

Throw the fans away and get a HOOT (http://www.overclockers.com/tips461/index02.asp)

I sincerely believe the effectiveness of this setup can be realized with just about any decent heatsink, not just the expensive Swiftech MC-462A. For you "nay-sayers", here is one last picture of the exhaust plume, with the blower running at 5V. I had to take this quickly, before the candle blew out.
So, don't drill all those holes in your case and populate them with small, noisy, ineffective fans.

With the Hoot you may start to bend the cards with the airflow.

Nope don't want to either. Right now with my rig all together I can almost blow out the flame on a lighter at 1 and half feet.

Have people run their Deltas at 17V? That's insane. Why not just get a 80mm or 92mm fan?
It's like saying that "My carbs bigger than your carb".
Jeez, just go water. Not that I'm biased or anything.
