Hi
i am looking to buy a new processor i have had this computer over a year and i think its about time to upgrade i only have a celeron. i am not too sure what to get i need something really fast and not too expensive. can anyone give advice on what to get?
welcome to the forums!
we'll need a bit more informmation than that- need to know motherboard brand and model most of all, also video card make and model, how much RAM, current CPU, all that good stuff. If you don't know goto http://www.sisoftware.demon.co.uk/sandra/ and download the Sandra tool- it should be able to give you all the info we need.
I'm going out on a limb to say that if it is a year old, it probably has a Celeron on a 66mhz bus- so the fastest direct upgrade is to a Celeron 766.
Course, if playing games is your thing, a new video card might be in order instead. Play with Sandra, and get back to us! I'm sure we can have your PC screaming fast in no time. :)

What kind of motherboard do you have? What speed is your current Celeron? What do you plan on doing with the machine?
Good stuff to know before anyone can give an educated answer.

my celeron has 500mhz my graphics is i810-L (100mhz) 64mb ram dyna, icaly shared and agp graphics
Intel motherboards, especially older ones, don't offer much in the way of overclocking features. But the main thing is the 500 celeron, which is a Katmai I believe, and those particular core/type of Intel processor peaked at 600mhz. That's not to say yours can't be overclocked, but the odds are not in your favor.

There is no AGP slot on this motherboard.
I recommend changing motherboard to put a normal graphics card into AGP slot. There are some not so very good PCI cards, You can use on this mb.
This is essential for playing games.

Check with your comp manufacturer, or the Intel website, and find out what the fastest chip you can put on that board will be. If you are not going to be doing any o/c'ing (which you probably won't be on an OEM Intel mobo), then find the upper limit of the board, and max it out...anything more than that, and you are looking at alot more than just a cpu upgrade...:D
heh, I get 10 points! The fastest Celeron you can use is indeed a 766mhz one.
But, you'd be better served getting a newer better motherboard. I vote for ASUS CUSL-2. But, no matter what board you get, DO NOT get one that has the built-in AGP graphics. If you see this, run far far away- even if you disable it and put in a real video card, the integrated AGP will still be sucking speed away from you.
The slowest part of your systme right now is the video, the 500mhz is actually not too bad- pair it with a decent vid card and you will have a pretty decent system. But like Pinky said, it won't overclock very far, if at all.
