What PSU do you have? System specs, ANY would be helpful. :)

Yea those cards seem to run outta steam before they overheat. I have mine set at 666/1674/950 and thats about as far as I can push it even though it dont really break 70c (think 100c is max)

Its a Core 2 Duo E6700 I believe, its been OCed to 3.1ghz.

LOL... no biggie...

Can you take a pic of the sticker on the side of it showing its 'specs' and post it? Or at least read how many amps it states are on the 12v rail?

Also, list specs like in my signature. Im concerned this *may* be a power supply issue. As I have never heard of that brand and dont know its OEM maker.

Right ta man ill do that tomorrow, im pretty sure its a 12v PSU though.

It will for sure have a 12v but what he wants to know is how manny Amps you have in that 12v rail .

I use an EVGA 9800GT and the latest drivers for it. 750/xwhatever shader is when its linked/mem 1100 with no problems gaming and 3Dmark. The game I play is EQ so prob not too graphic intensive though.

I first used Rivatuner but I found I like EVGA Precision better. The fan controller keeps it nice and cool.

The 8800GT and 9800GT are basically the same card. I had the 8800GT, and to get the high 700+ clocks I had to mod the BIOS for slightly more voltage.

Bascially? They are the same card aside from the bios.

My 8800GT runs out of steam past 730mhz on the core, shaders aren't stable past 1763mhz and mem goes like an extra 20mhz before it craps out. It's not to bad though, the oc helps a lot.

my last card, and msi 8800gt had nearly identical performance that you mentioned

Well, the name is different. And I believe the RAM chips are different. So, they are basically the same.

Obviously the name! LOL

And the ram is different insdie 8800gt's depending on release. Its the same pcb, same core, same clock speeds. If the ram was significantly different (say samsung vs qimonda as opposed to 1.2ns vs 1ns), the flashes wouldnt work at nearly the rate it does.

Thats the PSU I have in my system.

Right I went and bought a 550 Watt PSU and thought this might solve my problem but I still can OC past say 690 without my games crashing? Anyone got any ideas?

Some cards just don't oc to well.

Did you look into adding more voltage via the card's BIOS?

Also, did you unlink the shaders to see what each component can do on its own?

Yes mate ive tried adjusting each different component and its still the same, its funny because when I run ATI tool stress test I can leave it over 700 for over an hour with NP but when I try playing a game it just crashes.

Also ive installed Furmark and left that running with NP

How easy it to up the voltage on the 9800?
