View Full Version : ssd that doesn't stutter ?
I owned a ssd from gskill and was terrible. It did well in benches but playing even chess was pain on the notebook. So which up 60 or 64gb ssd drive will work similar to regular hard drive out of the box in the laptop.

SLC Samsung's, OCZ Vertex or Supertalent ME. G.Skill Falcon also but it was only just announced and not out for sale yet.

Don't the Intel ones work fine as well?
They are kind of pricey though.

Yes, but not in the same price range as the OCZ Vertex 60GB or 64GB SLC Samsung first generation (as low as $199 USD at geeks.com). Also, the OP had asked up to 64GB so I excluded the X25-M, though the X25-E does qualify as under that size but $$$$.

Pretty much sums it up. That is the best available short of the Intel price range.

The regular MLC "cheap" one, not the Titan or Falcon. It doesn't have a funky nickname to it.

I think most drives/brands can now be "tweaked" to eliminate stutter in most circumstances.
I have been very impressed with the Vertex line from OCZ most recently however.
I have them in my desktop and laptop, never a stutter and only minimal effort to tweak them.
The new G.Skills look like they should do rather good as well.

Yeah, it was one of the cheap gskill mlc drives

Vertex has different controller than gskill mlc that's what makes difference. I did everything from one of the ssd guides and did nothing for the performance.

Depends on which G.SKill he was referring to. The new ones have the same controller as the Vertex.

The G.Skill Falcon is the new one with Indilinx controller, I assume that is what they meant by the "new" G.Skill's.
