hey guys...
I have a CM 690 in which I have 6 fans. 5 x 120mm and 1x80mm..but my computer was making a loud whiny noise and I didn't know which fan it was. I know the 680i chipset fan is extremely noisy but I can turn down its speed. After disconnecting just about ALL the fans in my case, even the cpu fan...I realized the noise was coming from the PSU fan. Its loud enough to bother me since there wasn't a huge difference in overall noise when I disconnected all the fans. The PSU fan over powers all other fans in my case.
Im thinking of buying a new PSU now since I don't wana risk opening up the PSU myself..i have no experience there at all.
Which PSU do you think would suit my system well. Also, my main concern is how silent it is. I was thinking of buying one of these two:

http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=11180AC8887&vpn=CMPSU-750TX&manufacture=CORSAIR Corsair TX750W 750W
Which one is a better buy? And if theres a better brand of PSU then do let me know.
Edit: I already PM'ed a mod to move it to the right forum.

I would say the latter of the two as more power will be nice if you ever upgrade. And +1 to corsair psu's, good choice.

Ive been doing some research...and apparrently PC Power and Cooling is the most trusted brand when it comes to power supplies.
So Im down to these two choices now:
Corsair TX750W 750W = $140
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad 750W = $152 $144
Which one should I get? PCP&C has an 80mm fan which can get a bit noisy as Ive read in some reviews while the Corsair has a 140mm fan and is quiet. Any personal experiences with either one of them?
i am in a similar situation.
you can actually get the Corsair TX850 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139009) for $144.99 free shipping and not including rebate.
i have .. had the PC&C for about 2 years now and it just died on me a couple days ago. it's goin for replacement now but i am considering get something else in.
i can say that i never had problems with the PSU and it's not noisy at all, probably one of the quietest PSU i had so far.
i read a couple of reviews stating that the corsair has a little ripple issue if loaded heavy but i would like to know how much effect it has in real world

Im in Canada...and I don't shop from newegg.ca
Did you have the same Silencer Quad 750?
I can get the Corsair TX850 for $22 more than TX750. But then again I can get a 650W for $20 less. Not sure what to do. Tight on budget right now..and want something to last me for long.
yeah, it's the silencer series.
i think the 750 would do. i have a 260 as well but run it with a quad.
i wouldn't go lower thou

How old is the OCZ psu you have now, is it under warranty?
If your car blows a tire, why replace the car when you can simply change the tire so to speak. Meaning, why not just RMA the psu and have them replace the noisy fan in the OCZ power supply?
If it were me, rather than spend $142 on a new PSU, I'd simply replace the $2 fan If the PSU is not under warrantee, maybe one of your friends that knows how to discharge a psu can help you swap out the fan?

I got it off the local classifieds. The guy gave me the reciept but i cant find it. Plus, i would have to pay for the shipping charges all the way to the US and split the return shipping cost. And depending on how they ship it, I would be responsible for the customs and brokerage fees. Fortunately, one of my friends was interested to buy it and the noise didnt bother him (hes wearing headphones 90% of the time for music/games), so in the end I paid just as much for a new Corsair TX750 than I wouldve paid for the repair/replacement and the wait time for RMA.
Edit: They do have a sales office in Canada. Not sure if they would handle the RMA or not.

I'd call them and ask. Worse they can say is no.

I called them. They do handle RMAs. Their office is really not that far off from my house (17km). The Corsair TX750 cost me $40 from my pocket. I guess its worth it to get a better brand and a brand new one as opposed to a repair. Oh well.

You can find your answers here. (http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=136602)
I would discharge the psu, rip the casing off, and replace the fan...hell, I do stuff like that for ****s n giggles anyways, even better to have an actual reason lol.
edit
If your gonna toss the PSU I'll pay shipping to mess with it myself....just an offer.
