I'm looking for a game that is graphically good looking and does not have cavemen or aliens as options in the time lines. Just some good tank on tank action type of game. With or without resource gathering, either way.

None of the following please:

Empire - Total War
C&C - any
Supreme Commander
anything from EA

All other suggestions welcome please.

World in Conflict seems like a good fit.

Good graphics
Modern Era
Good tank combat
No resource gathering
Not made by EA

Company of Heroes?

Great game. WWII. It is an RTS with some "third person shooter perspective": you can zoom way in to get awesome view of the action!! I've not played any of the versions after the original but there are custom maps and other goodies to alter the play if you like.

WIC is a great game but the single player skirmish type battles are very limited.

Looking for a COH demo now.

I'd definitely recommend company of heroes. Great game and it'll meet your needs. If you can't find a demo of it just buy it, you won't be disapointed imho.

Squeenix just sent a promo email and Order of War looks pretty darn cool. They have a (flash heavy) site at http://na.orderofwar.com/

Definitely gonna pick it up, not sure when they are releasing though.

I got a few games.....3 in total.

COH had some great moments but the bugs just killed it for me. Over a dozen crashes in 2 days is enough for me to let go of that $30. At least the crashes made me forget how angering it was to tell units to do something and have them not do it. :) Over and over....

I grabbed Battlestations Midway (less than $10 @ Frys) and am enjoying it due to the fact that you can do so many different things in it. None of them that well but there is a lot of options so the replay learning all the different roles will be fun. Graphicaly a descent looking game.

I also got Theatre of War which even though the graphics are dated (BIG minus in my book) looks like it would have immense playability options. The game just seems to shoot itself in the foot over and over due to either being over complex or poorly programed. I've not spent enough time with it to know which.

I think what I'm looking for is an graphically updated Empire Earth now that I've gone back and tried to replay a lot of older stuff that I really enjoyed in it's day. EE was a great balance of resource gathering and commanding IMHO. EE II sadly just did not do it for me.

If you like a slower paced first person game Red Orchestra has come pretty realistic tanks in it. A bit of an older graphics engine but still fun for tank vs. tank.

Anyone tried Men Of War ? Got a decent 79 at metacritic.

NetPanzer (http://www.netpanzer.org/)? It's a multiplayer squad-based take-over-the-factories tank game.

Downloading the Men of War demo now. I'll give NetPanzer a try when I get some time.

Supreme Commander is not what you are looking for.. it's more of a futuristic type game. Forcefields?

Bumping and quoting because..

It's out. I got the demo and I have to say, I don't really 'get it' yet. Maybe it'll grow on me.
