with WinXP, not sure.
download GuildFTP, Serv-U, or BulletFTP from www.download.com . they are the best FTP servers. they are really easy. in order to access it, people need an FTP surfer though. thats no problem.

Go to control panel, then add remove programs, then add system programs. Just like you add components to Win98. Make sure IIS is clicked, then go inside IIS and make sure FTP server is checked.
Then install it. Simple enough.
Then you you need to open the IIS manager and setup the connection and the accounts for the users unless you plan on having an annonymous FTP (anyone can enter)
I suggest you read up on NT security. I also suggest you read up on IIS FTP. I also suggest you download urlscan.exe (keeps the script kiddies out). All of this can be found on that wonderful website....http://www.microsoft.com
You have to install it when you install your IIS.
Just a note, when you install your IIS, secure it first before you bring it online. Nimda/CodeRed(II)/SirCam are still crusing around.
On the top do documentation I have common files (checked) how can I secure it ?
Can I get more help guys??

Go to Microsoft.com and type in urlscan.exe in the search. Download and get this program. It will stop the script kiddies. Anything else that you do to secure your FTP is up to you and what kind of access to you want.
If you go anonymous, anyone can get in.
First off, did you install XP as FAT32 or NTFS?

Just wanna make sure your aware of all the loop holes in IIS. It's quiet easy to be hacked through it. I would make sure you secure and get someone knowledgeable to purposly hack you. Then you can tell where your loopholes are. Especially try to protect yourself against nimda/codered and such viruses. Just a warning and good luck.
I can't even get to set the FTP first before I think about that ?
