Is there any real use for the extra 64 Mb?

Henry.

No use at all, but when stepping up, why not take the biggest steps you can afford at the time :D

My supplier has them for ordering...and they cost just as much as a Radeon 8500. An easy choice in my mind.....

Yeah - they sure look nice, but that doesnīt really matter when the card is inside the case anyway....and the question is: Are these designs really that smart? The GPU and the memory chips share the same heatsink, but since the GPU generates a lot more heat than the memory modules the outcome will propably be that the memory chips will be heated rather than cooled. My guess is that this could be a problem if you intend to O/C the card.

i think it makes sense. otherwise ive heard from some reviews on internet that those heatsinks work fine. one has said that they r a good cooling solution. in my opinion the manufacters would not make them if they were not better, what u think? it looks pretty much elaborate to be maken for me.
it seems that what it will be most needed is a very effective fan, this way the card gets a fan even to the ramsinks.

oh my! The leadtek and gainward are at newegg! Both under $200. I think I'll have to try the gainward out!

my question:

why the ti200's?

why not the 500's?

seems like your higher end chipset cards should be the ones getting the extra goodies.

Very simple: One heatsink is cheaper both to manufacure and apply than three. I donīt think the manufacturers in general care about overclocking people; itīs not in their intrest.

It cannot be a good solution to let two sources, that generates wastly different amounts of heat, share the same HS. This is propably why Gainward, a manufacturer who seem to take overclockers in mind, chooses not use one HS for both memory and GPU.

Henry.

i see your point but i cant still be so sure.
the way i understand the problem if the fan is good enough it will cool both the ram and core better than it would if it was only above the gpu separated heatsink. that integrated solution seems to be about to get the active cooling also for the ram.
thats something the hardware websites could concern more about now. as far as i noticed the differences were not great enough for any reviewer i readed to choose one as the best solution. i heard from tomshardware that due to the new integrated hs leadtek was able to finally solve its cards known overheating problem, and a few other considerations about a good cooling solution they r.
