View Full Version : same case, two and three different brands?
why r there cases made by two different manufacters that r still the same case?
for ex., i was surfing at newegg and found out that the antec 1040 is the same of the chenming 601ae and the chieftec dx-01. the difference is that one is sold already with the psu, another isnt.
Same reason there are hundreds of manufacturers for coffee cups, pencils, windows, etc.
It's just the way business is...

Yeah it makes no sense, I know. Propably this has to do with our less-than-rational senses. I.e. a Mitshubishi becomes a Dodge, Dodge can also be a Chevy and a Chevy might just as well be a Buick(did I get this right?).
But be calm though - itīs all from China. ;)
regards,
Henry.
One company makes a sweet looking, functional case...alot of people buy it...another company wants a piece of that action...they duplicate the case...simple!
people that are familiar with or loyal to a particular brand are able to get the design that's hot, w/o having to switch brands...

All except the Dodge is a Chevy. Dodge used to make engines for Ford, way back when Ford was alive. To my knowledge Dodge never had dealings with GM.
It is all about market share. The more names something is sold under the more market share you can get.

Enermax has the same case as well.
So which should I get? I am looking into getting one of those cases. I already have a 320W psu in my current case that appears to be doing ok (+5v is at 4.87). The antec sx1030B sells for 88+19shipping and has a decent psu in it. The chieftech knock off sells for 69+15shipping, but has a generic 300W psu I have never heard of. So which should I go for?
EDIT: ooh, never mind. It somes with an enhance 300w psu. That's good, right? So the only difference I think there may be is that the front door on the chieftec is plastic. I think the antec one is aluminum, but can't tell now cuz the antec site is down. Chieftech case, here I come!

correct me if i'm wrong:
my understanding of this particular situation is that the manufacturer of that particular case doesn't actually sell retail. they make it for other companies, who slap their logo/name on it and resell it at a higher price (and sometimes add their PSU).
from what i understand, the cases are actually made by the same company.

thats how i see the situation here.
actually there r many other products in the market under the same situation. recently i made i search for information on the palit videocards and the situation i got about them is still a bit more interesting than that one: palit make the oem cards by request and eventually some poor-quality samples will get onto a black market to be sold under the guise of normal samples.
this cases situation seems to be different in fact. they all seem to be made by the same manufacter, perhaps antec, but i beleive not all them have the same warranty and such other important things.

The Antec has a plastic front. If you can afford it go with the Antec SX1040. You will get a really good P/S and the case comes with two fans that you may or may not use. I used 4 Sunon 50CFM fans with my case. Its $27.00 over the Enermax but you have a bigger P/S. On the other hand you can buy the SX1000, this is without a P/S for about $69.00.
Check out this site. It has the same case without the P/S.

Because the cases are manufactured by the same company. They sell them to resellers (antec, cheng ming, chieftain) who sell them to dealers, who sell them to you at extra hyped prices.
And they are all the same case.
