Ok I went out and got a dvd rom today, and I remember that the radion was supposed to have the best dvd playback. when I installed the drivers, and dvd software, and all the crap i was supposed to, I started watching preditor. and It was jumpyer than anything I have ever seen. and I know its not my computer. so I am just wandering what i could have dont rong with something that simple. and also looking through the manuel for the dvdrom, it talks about region playback control management. (rcp). can anyone explain this to me. thanx
Yes, it is your computer.
What chipset do you have on your board? Update the drivers for it (they'll be available at the manufacture's website. What Radeon drivers are you using? Beta's work best, and you can get most of them @ http://www.rage3d.com
Which OS are you using? W/ a Dualy setup, it's NT kernel (4 or 5) or *nix. Make sure you have all the latest patches etc for them.

ok lets start with I am running 2k pro, I have a vp6 accordint to abit it has via "VIA chipset (VT82C694X and VT82C686B) ". Im using the newest beta drivers I got from ati. but that doesent have the dvd playback with them, I am using the one from the cd for it. did I miss anything.
The most likely cause for jumpy DVD playback is because DMA is not enabled for the DVD drive it is prob using PIO.

hmm the dma enable is not in the device manager like in 98. do you know where I might find it in 2k
You might also wanna try a different program. Try to find a good copy of PowerDVDxp. Thats about the best proggie there is for DVD playback, and it'll let you enable DMA mode.

Check under the properties for the ide controllers themselves...not the drives.

(found a bug already) but its ati so what are you gona do. and dont say get a nvedia. any ways it seems to be working much better now. except it doesent turn my screen saver off. well I must say I have asked a bunch of questions here and this is the quickest I have ever gotten responces. thanx guys
Glad we could be of help this place is great ain't it?
I just put a Radeon 8500 in one of my machines tonight. For the past year I have been all NVidia but I have heard so many great things about the 8500 and I was in need of an upgrade anyway. So far it is stomping my old GF2 Ultra (>1.5 times faster in 3DMark2001) which I ran at 270/500 and this is with the drivers that came with the radeon next is finding the best driver, tweeking, and OC :D
And the video quality is unreal the GeeForce is outclassed by a mile here!
I'll let you know my results on a driver search and if you find a good one let me know to!

I just got the new one from rage3d.com. if you get it dont try the rotate function. it makes mign reboot. lol
with the 2kpro drivers from there, avoid the newest ones. They suck more than the official ones from ATI. Use the ones released before that. 3281 I believe.
