Hey guys, I know Crysis has been covered a lot here. I searched and could not find any answer for my problem. I am hoping someone here can help.

Here is my story, I will try to keep it short but I want to tell you everything I did.

I just built a new pc (in sig) about 3 weeks ago. I originally went with a different CPU and GPU. I started off with a AMD phenom 9600+, and a GeForce 9800GTX+. I was using Win XP with DX9. I had low frame rate and was not happy with some of my new parts, so I got my Phenom II 940 and ordered a copy of vista. I then decided to upgrade my GPU, so I got the GTX280. So with the rig in my sig and Win XP I was playing Crysis fine. 8XAA, 1920X1080 res and everything on high. I beat the game without any problems at all.

When Vista came in In I said great, now I would like to play it again with DX10. I got my new OS going fire up Crysis with the extra high settings for DX10 8XAA and 1920X1080 res, I load into the game. Wow was it messed up.

The only way I can try and explain it, is if you picture my TV cut into thirds, horizontally, and each third had its own refresh rate. If I did not move, it looked fine but every time I moved my guy, I would see my screen look like it was cut into thirds. I turned off AA and lowered everything. Everything at min specs and still did the same thing. I launched the game in DX9 and the problem was gone. I cranked the settings in DX9 and problem still gone. Only in DX10 do I have this and the game settings do not make it better or worse.

I have 2 other games right now that use DX10. Far Cry 2 and Hawx, and they both play perfect with settings maxed out and in DX10.

Another thing to note is during my initial format and install with vista, I had some trouble with my MoBo and Vid card drivers. I ended up having to format again. I also had a problem with reg cure and vista. Vista let it delete files it shouldn't have. I ran the scan and clean my registry then my PC would not turn on. I had to format again. So I have formatted my pc multiple times and this Crysis problem is still there. I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled the game maybe 6 times. This problem will happen all the time and does not matter what patch for the game I am running.

I hope someone will have an idea of what is going on. I know my PC can handle the game, but for some reason it does not like to run in DX10 with my rig.

Any ideas, suggestions?

Thanks.

Have you patched crysis to version 1.2 at least? If not give that a go...

You could try some different video card drivers, however with all the installation troubles you have, I wouldnt doubt you have some bad sectors on your hard drive or something, and may have a corrupt install of crysis

Thanks for the reply,

I have patched to 1.1 and tried 1.2 Without the patches or with the patches DX9 plays fine and DX10... Not so much!

Thanks, but the thing is I have done full uninstalls and re installs probably 6 times. As far as the driver goes, I have only used 2 different ones. The one that came on the disk that came with the card and the latest one from BFG Tech.

Do you know where I can get different drivers, and how could I fix a bad sector on my hard drive. I have uninstalled and done disk cleanups and de frags.

Thanks again.

Have you tried the one on nVidia's site? http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

I would start there, and if those don't work, you could try some beta drivers. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Isn't that link just for the latest driver? That's the one I am currently running. I have not tried the beta drivers, I will give that a shot if you think there is a chance it will work.

its worth a shot. The only other thing I can think of is run a DirectX update.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en

that will update you to the latest version of DX9.0c/10

have you tried running a check disk?

I will try to update DX10. I run disc cleanups and disc defrags. Is that what you mean by check disc?

Um, maybe I'm just crazy, but do you have vsync on, lol?

If you don't know, then the answer is probably no. Go to nvidia control panel and under manage 3d settings set vertical sync to force on. This will force vsync on all games.

I can't play any game unless vsync is enabled because there is nothing I find more annoying in a game than tearing.
