Need to safely locate the triple RAD onto the Reserator2 bits.
The only place you can take a drill to the thing is the aluminium case at the front. The rear is also a resevoir so we dont want any holes in that.
maybe some kind of battons down the sides of the triple RAD?
First thoughts were 4 blobs of innotech fishtank sealant but thats just my background.
Has to be a reversable modification for the six month check over.
just a couple of brackets with screw fixings maybe?
The back locates quite nice.

Dump the reserator 2, how much cooling do you think it even adds to your loop?
Give it up dude.

Rewind a minute...
I ask about fittings and you suggest it should be weighed in and melted into an aluminium ingot, is that whats happening #Laughs#
If you think about it a minute it carnt just be doing nothing at all :)
should be smooth running and cooler for 3 reasons now, no pump, no electrics and a triple fan on top.
its just an aluminium rad now... not even sporting that filthy name, its quite safe.
honestly though do you really think I should take it out the loop on a machine thats clocked to its limits?
Figured out how to make some brackets from spare Zalman, Recycle the discounted discount junk... looks like a pair of dirty white trainers but its hangin in.
bet you could make something out of this here http://www.loctiteproducts.com/products/detail.asp?catid=11&subid=49&plid=160

+1 on the epoxy putty suggestion. That stuff is awesome.
BobbyBubblehead
05-04-09, 12:29 PM
I may just get some of that stuff to play with some day but the innotech wins out on the being free side of things.
meanwhile enjoy these new temps with me...

the coolant was 26`c this morning at virtually idle. (Red ones the case ambient)
#Chuckles#
thats all fans at 100% throughout the machine.
Just testing how much heat we can fend off before it really matters.
Forgot to say I just orderd a Gigabyte GA-EP45 so I can finally have more sata`s and thrash the nuts `n bolts out of it (may even put the CPU block on the right way round this time)
best thing i ever did with that stuff was to fix some wounds and scratches on a hydraulic cylinder
@ bobby hehe it's kind of hard to beat free stuff ;-))

well on the one side you can put some bolts into the silver part. but on the other side, not so sure.
if it's just going to sit there and not move around to much then i would make a U bracket for the res side.
here is a sketchup i made to show what i mean.

05-04-09, 05:32 PM
wow super diagramatic response... like it.
yep that would work and cover the whole fitting pipes now and again.
its as likely to get knocked off as the res2 is to be knocked over really... think you would notice.
some pre fab and a couple of holes to drill... its a good solution. Glues a bit too one way.
have a section of zalman channel from the top so if I notched it out, it would serve as suggested bracket (if theres enough material for the holes)
have to see whats knocking around.
as it rests on the 2nd photo is fine... took the top and bottom plate off the front section so its just a big fin causing no obstruction.
Well I just tried the front panel... its fine but 30Watts for a blue light and something that tells me its broke about 15 seconds before I find out its erm broke?
not sure I need that bit either.

head over to the local hardware store for a strip of metal. it's what i used to mount my rads.
BobbyBubblehead
05-04-09, 06:11 PM
time to change the juice when this new board turns up...
need to order the sacred ingredients and get stocking up on distilled.
hope theres no galvanic corrosion, hope I can fight that last zalman pump out the other Reserator.
more flow with that pump out the way im sure.
im getting ready to cry for help from a laptop when the fun starts.
Leak testing for hours on end... theres something to be said for the practicality of noisy air cooling
this motherboards been upsetting me and making me practice some strange tongues for too long... not the OC`ing choice at all.
its done stress testing me... no more!
Last quality board I had was for a 800Mhz intel that clocked well... not sure I want to think about how long ago that must be.

GA-EP45 and first raptor due to land today...
This is it `Thrash Time` see how far this Q66 and ram will go?
Maybe even a few more Hz out the GPU... I hope so!
I love making stuff run faster... as my gaming reflexes get slower...
How`s G11 look on carpets?
because its going to be like wrestling an octopus later... takes a bit of effort to bleed and prime.
Think the plan is loosely as follows...
Remove the last Zalman Pump From the Reserator V2 (Should be Fun)
Ditch the Zalman Flow Indicators and sump gauge & 500Lph Pump
1000ml Resevoir? nope dont need that either.
Lets hope the D5`s strong enough...
D5 should be strong enough, especially without those other things holding it back.
Here's to calamari by dinner time!
BobbyBubblehead
05-06-09, 05:32 AM
Well the bits are out for delivery... no G11 but I think leak testing with the old coolant isnt a bad idea... hope I can get the D5 roasting on full power without those obstructions.
maybe nows the time to get downloading the updates and drivers for the new board...
get this Q66 over the 3060 limit on this board, anythings a bonus. needed more sata`s more than anything... got a mountain of vinyl to record 24bit at least.
looking forward to the chaos :)
UPDATE... its 12:27 and the bits are here, see you later :)

Back... but couldnt clock for toffee.. still half a million updates so no worries.
case is too small so no more bay coolers unless I can find a way to run without ram.
as for the new bios... may as well been the contorls of an alien space craft.
Tweakers paradise.... idiots nightmare, what does it all do?
installed and still no blue screen.
dont even know what bios version im running on yet.
well much to do.

no fair, i want that low idle...
it seems more and more common people putting triple rads for just cpu loops... i think i need another triple....

Just re-juiced on G11 and PT-Nuke.
Got it to 3.100Ghz stable... need to read up some more.

Got to say it was the biggest motherboard box I ever did see, and the weight of the thing wow.
So much smoother on the graphics at the same speeds... nothing like a good board to finish off the form factor.
and all that clocking fun to be had... party!
Even got a CLR-CMOS swith on the back of the board for thoes `ooops a daisy` sessions.
UPDATE... I think if I move the stuff in the bays up one there may just be enough room to pipe up the bays again, but that means breaking down to component level again... Dingbat planning scheme!
Intresting that the heat pipe still does its bit but then again that North bridge water block is mounted on a bed of fins as a compromise to none water cooled... not a brilliant solution but seemingly no problem either.
machines been on about 36 hours and to the touch I would say mid - high 20s

ya, thats one of the things i didn't like about it. you have all that sexy copper only to mess it up and put fins in between the block and chip.
Actually you could just remove that block from the loop, I know blasphemy, but I've got 1 fan blowing over the mobo and it's plenty cool enough. That attached cooler actually does work some. Using the calibrated touch test, my x48T NB runs hotter than my p45t nb.

I could remove the block, you know its not going to happen though because ive got shiny new copper things to play with.
Valid point though the board is a cool runner.... lots of copper in the PCB too.
Note. I like the natty little release buttons for the PEG slots... much better than the snapped off variety I seem to create on other boards... hands like shovels.

well lets hope in six months theres no galvanic corrosion.
on that point its worth saying the G11 PT-nuke mix seems less viscous than the zalman syrup mix.

But horses for courses... as they say.
I tend to look at the screens not the `Clown Fans` #Chuckles# (I had to give up the flow indicator because it kept mesmorising me, im that bad)
If asthetics is a priority then get to it... I`ll stick to looking round the house for bits.
Part Womble, part Borrower... Wonder if you can make a case out of road signs?
On a serious note I would like to make a case out of a table... already chopped 4inch off the legs of the one im using and set the glass in it. Could`nt be much more sabotage in it. Been meaning to put my lights back in the table. Intresting table, rubbish case theres a solution in it somewhere.
one day.
(Dont think I would like to try and prime a table loop... sounds heavy)
I would like to add that I do solder all my botched connections coverd in PVC tape... Carnt just bind them, it oxidizes eventually and loose copper wires glancing across live circuits, generally not a winner!
On a serious note I would like to make a case out of a table...

Edit- If you want a large case, something like a pinnical 24 (http://www.mountainmods.com/pinnacle-24-cyo-p-498.html) or Assension (http://www.mountainmods.com/ascension-black-wrinkle-powder-coat-original-top-p-462.html)may be what you want.
BobbyBubblehead
05-10-09, 12:05 AM
that Ascension case is the biggest case I ever did see... wonder how many years of service you can get out of it?
I was thinking a rackmount flight case may be the cheapest most tweakable option... I`ll get down to the local electronics shop and check em out more I think.
this case im using will live on with something smaller stuck in it.
guess a 1/4 to 3/8 elbow would be the cheapest option but I miss a nice case to work in after I gave the last one to a good friend that had a rather large GPU card.
(teach me to be too happy... didnt take a bean for it, nice, stupid or both)
currently settled for 3.450Ghz dont think the 800 ram wants to play much over that without some more voltage.

Wonder if I can plumb this creation in as a secondry loop for monitoring and cooling smaller gauge tubing for the bays and ram sinks?
I would like to try active cooling the EVGA back plate on the GTX280... see if it enables me to get to the next Hrz stepping. Could be nice.
it all needs a re-plan and a few barbs & elbows to simplify it... but as an experiment/tester it`ll do.
not expecting any flow issues with the D5 vario on the main loop... just sort of T in after the rads and prey #Chuckles#

It does occur to me, however, that with a shroud around the bottom part of the rad extending straight downward you might get a little extra cooling by getting some airflow around the monster you've got it sitting on ...? ;)

05-11-09, 01:48 PM
Maybe something as simple as hanging a C-shaped piece of foam-board (or whatever you'd call it) off those lips.
The foam board I use a lot is 1/8" foam wrapped on both sides by heavy white paper (it comes in many colors), total thickness about 1/4". It's light-weight and strong enough to hold more than it's own. Clear PVC (heavy packing) tape binds to the paper like a weld. Kinda' ghetto but really doesn't look too bad and works great for baffles, shrouds, almost anything of that nature. I picked up the idea of using that from some guru years ago. He was using it as baffles to increase internal air flow over his NB and CPU sinks way back when. He almost covered the top half of the motherboard with it ... :)

I've used that foam cored poster board for fan shrouds on my big radiator. Works perfect with cellophane packaging tape too.
I've also used it as the foam core of my monster case. Coating it in fiberglass is easy, but I had to seal the edges with tape to prevent the exposed foam from being eaten away at the edges by the acetone in the resin.

If the link doesn't show it to you, just search "peanut butter jelly time". It was an internet flash video sensation a few years ago. That's where the little dancing banana is from.

which episode of family life... im still quite disturbed from the one where hes luring fishermen onto the rocks with his mermaidery (singing the Rockford Files theme)
You know theres a guy that owns a computer shop and he looks exactly like him!
I sort of know the guy so I may ask if I can get a photo/punched in the teeth #Laughs#
(have pointed it out to him before... he agreed its him #Laughs#)
The Video #Laughs# thats exactly how I dance, always get the dancefloor to myself LOL
grab a couple of ladies and leave with none... smooth runner :bang head

shocking `n shamefull.... at least you can only make a better job of it!
when im that bored...
Hehehehe, that PBJ video is disturbingly funny! :D
BTW, the no pants dance is while wearing me kilt. I know I know, I'm a Russian boy, but I got the legs for a kilt. I bought the clergy plaid because it's teh purty bloo and there's no plaid for Soviet Georgia.
Nice job the monkeys did for you there, they even were thoughtful enough to tape the unused drive connectors for you.
I've seen them do worse!
Bulgarian looks to be a chore there m8!

Accidently loaded G-parted live in Bulgarian the other day.... alien control panel #Chuckles#
The language... maybe pigeon version over time, but the alphabet?
I only do english and people in the UK dont speak it anymore... language murderd.
no one wants/needs to teach Bulgarian and theres only 6million there (10% English already.... hmmm)
there cool people though... have a nack of stuffing up everyone that occupies and rules them... and still hold such a massive cultural identity. There a hardy bunch all right.
going back soon :D:clap::attn:
besides ive already picked me a wife... just not told and conviced her yet #Laughs#
at a populous of 80% women even my dancing carnt kill the odds #Chuckles#
(what I really carnt get my head round is they Nod to say no and shake there heads to say yes... not easy after 35years the other way round!)
Stems back to the Turkish Rule... they used to blindfold them with a knife under there throats and question them and if they noded yes they died!
Guess you would get out the habbit at that.
Grim but fact...
Have to practice my Peanut jelly dancin... I could see they were impressed the first time #Laughs#

Hey I have to sleep with that 700watt fire hazzard churning away... anything could happen, well except 4GHz perhaps :)
Im the future when I take it all over to Bulgaria anyhow... its 15"CRT and Quake 3 engine technology state over there.
you can buy new games there for £9 bonkers! about 20 Lev.
actually come to think of it you can go to the local shop and order a goat for £25 (rustic you say... I like milk in my tea dont normally keep the fridge teatherd to a stake in the yard but hey its fresh everytime.
(you have to gain a certain understanding to get a cup full though)
I never knew goats smiled... made me feel a little guilty eating minted lamb earlyer #Laughs#
yes there not quite the same animal but its true to say that dinner had feelings too.
(last time I was there I slept through a 5.5 earthquake LOL... not much point trying to run anywhere in time. when your in a ex-soviet apartment block about 200 steps to safety.. hmm)

vcore 1.36 actual
NB 1.5
400x9 3.600
stable... :)
Temps peak at 56 on loppy core 2 (core3 keeps failing first though?)
27.55 Amps on the Vcore not 60amps!
overclock...
CPU 50%
FSB 50%
GPU 18%
Shader 17%
Memory 22%
RAM 850Mhz 4-4-4-12
ratio 1:1
will see if I can trim it down some more...
Found its feet though.... bench all day at this speed.
hmm everest unltimate is reading 10`c lower throughout than OCCT
one of them has to be wrong?
hokiealumnus
05-12-09, 03:52 PM
Use Coretemp (http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/), it'll give you the temps straight from the CPU.
BobbyBubblehead
05-12-09, 03:54 PM
cool, will do... gotta know which is right!
yep everest ultimates wrong... maybe some adjustment in the software somewhere.
Well at least the OCCT results will be accurate....
still using the machine while its on a test.... bonkers stable.
and only 2amps more than normal:clap:
22min left on 1hr test.
wish I had my temp probe in the coolant... slack swine that I am, May change my name to `Captain Tidy` #Chuckles#

Does CoreTemp also show that +4°C difference on core 2? That's just too strange ...
BobbyBubblehead
05-12-09, 09:55 PM
White rabbits been peaking on core #2 since I had the chip...
stuff it! ...(probably)
Chips lived in three different machines so far.... everytime I mount it properly as always.... its there lurkin at temps above the rest?
Guess its just a physical thing of some description.
deffinately the core and not anything else to blame.
well it took 60amps load and peaked off the chart and still lives on so whatever its down to its not critical thus far.
Core #3 always fails first... suppose that could be some form of undevolting on the 2nd part of the die.
gives it some charecture at least #Chuckles#
If it explodes i`ll come back on the laptop and tell you all about it... (and my life in general probably) #Grins#
Im not worried, no need for you to be :)
the whole original machine doesnt cost as much as that 800Mhz chip I blew up back in the day.... one of the early boys for getting over 1000Mhz it did 1200 until it fused to the heat sink... last bios report 128`c ooops!
knock on effect from a blowed up CPU seems mild to an exploding PSU.
but as for old core#2 here theres the same increase at stock speeds... its its way of doing things?
QuietIce
05-12-09, 10:30 PM
Yea - all chips have their own stamp that way - the same core usually does fail first at whatever OC you're at or however you seat the chip.
I wonder if there's something special about core 2 on all Q6600's? My core 2 is consistently 5°C cooler than the others ... :screwy:
BobbyBubblehead
05-12-09, 10:43 PM
heres to continuity then #Chuckles#
certainly something special about my core#2 anyhow
thermal throttling for the sake maybe #Laughs#
gone are the days when there was a minimum working temp for chips... getting old... all thoes wrecked PC`s ive created over the years.
All that stress from playing Quake1-3 with friends.
lost days in radioactive tight spots with me crow bar.
used to have a network in the secure storage warehouse.... after hours parties... was ok with the boss (Me) #Chuckles#

think its an optikanetics/illusion thing with how it was... white square with a black circle in it... makes it look pinched where the circle intersects with the boundry. doesnt really just your brain working between the two varables.
Shouldnt have studied these things.... now they come to get me LOL

conundrum pm me and felt I was loosing the plot, quite right.
I should have kept the cooling as one novelty thread because you would have to be nuts to desire the un-desireable Alu stuff :)
and the rest somewhere more fitting, but I figure if im detailed about it people can help themselves get to 3.6 without quite so much question time.
