Which is the better overclocker?

1700+ has to be better since it has a 100mhz head start! :)

It only has a 70 Mhz head start and some people might have better luck with different chips. So you never know.

XP 1500 1.33 Ghz
XP 1600 1.4 Ghz
XP 1700 1.47 Ghz
XP 1800 1.53 Ghz
XP 1900 1.6 Ghz
XP 2000 1.67 Ghz

No doubt, it's a 70mhz headstart. I was using fuzzy math. :)

i would say the 1600+ is the best bang for the buck if thats what u mean because it overclockes very well.... if u ment witch will hit the highest clock speed... i would say probly the 1700+ due to it starts higher so it dosent have as far to go

That's basically what I meant, which people tend to get a higher OC out of.

Thanks

I just picked up a 1600XP AGNGA "Y" Week 52 as a backup for my XP1800 AGKGA "Y" Week 38 and much to my surprise, it beats my 1800. I'm not pushing it hard yet and it is already running 12x150. Guess who wound up being the backup CPU? :D

I see people in this thread hitting 1.6-1.8ghz with their 1600's, are these actual OC's or are you going by AMD's rating?

IF these are actual OC's then I think I'll go for the 1600, 1.6-1.7 is exactly the range I'm hoping to hit using a pal8045 and a duct pulling air from outside.

Oh, another question, I have a golden socket (damn A7m ;)) will that work withough unlocking the chip or will I need to unlock it still? Sorry to sound like a noob, I'm not overly familiar with the XP's

Thanks again :)

Both my XP 1600s do 1.63GHz with no extra voltage on my Asus MPX board. Excellent chips. They were AGNGA-Y steppings as well.

They could probably do much more but I'm hindered by my chipset and no overclocking options other than FSB.

Great! I'll go with a 1600 as soon as I can afford one, thanks guys!
