Okay, I have really fuzzy displays at or over 1024x768, I read all about this mod and I am almost definately gonna do it. THe thing is, I have a Chaintech GF2 Pro with TV out. There are extra caps near the serial connection (see pic). I think that these caps just filter the TVout signal, and it wouldnt matter if they were removed anyways, but just in case, I'd like some input. Picture included (damn this digicam is handy :))

Only remove the 9 capacitors I boxed in. Don't remove any other parts. And please be careful when you do it.

A side note, if your getting poor picture quality at high resolutions even after the mod you may need to adjust your monitor. Look to see if you can adjust the moire and play around with it. You may notice a huge difference at higher resolutions if you take the time to adjust it.

It's hard to tell just what you mean...

The ones closest to the monitor-out, are there 6 all in one vertical row? Is that your confusion?

It looks pretty straight-forward to me. There seem to be three rows of three caps. But I can't really tell, because they're so small. They should all look exactly the same, be aligned vertically, the bottom-most caps are closest to the edge of the card.

If you still aren't sure, contact the manufacturer and try to get the info from a tech support person.

Those are the ones. They break easy if you use needlenose plyers, so try not to get any particles anywhere on your card.

Hey i did the mod with tweezers, it was simple as pie, but the last two caps were obstructed by that damned plastic two-pin cover thing. I eventually just ripped that off (it was on good) and then got rid of the other two.

Results:

Definate improvement. Nothing to go insane about, but (and I haven't tested 3d yet) 2d quality is definately improved, mainly text. The general fussyness has vanished and I am very happy with the results of this simple, 5 minute mod.

***UPDATE:

WHOA!!!

I forgot that when my vid card is removed and replaced the monitor refresh gets reset to 60Hz. I set it back up to 85 (my normal) and the difference is now planly seen. I ran the 3dMark2k1 Demo and I was astounded. Text is crisp and clear as day. This GF2Pro image quality rivals that of the Radeon series...unbelieveable how much difference such a little mod can make!! I urge everyone to try this out.
