Right now my cpu is running at a 35C. It is a Celeron 1000 that is not overclocked...not yet that is (waiting for new HSF). Is the temp of my CPU too high? Also my case temp is only 18C because of my freezer like basement up here in Canada.

And also, what HSF do you people recommend for about lets say...$35.00 Canadian??

Thanks a lot in advance!!

Well i presume that its the temp while idle, can u post your temperature while gamin or playin some divix movies(two @ the time) or doin some heavy stuff like seti or folding?
But i think your temp is O.K.If u want to buy better heatsink its not a bad idea. There are several threads in Cooling forum that u should check out.
But my recommendation goes to Alpha or Global Win...
cheers

Try to run this burn'in program http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/other.html Its CPUStability test. I find this program to shoot temps up quicker than any other program. It lags the system very heavily so you may have trouble doing anything else. I usually use this program and Sandra's burn'in at the same time.

If temp goes over than 40c you may need a new HS. If it stays under then try to O/C a bit. as long as you stay under 45c you should be ok. I have found that after a half hour of burn'in my temps decrease a few degrees due to the thermal paste softening into the CPU and HS's pores (only on fresh HS applications).

If above link doesnt work try to right click and save as or try here (http://people.freenet.de/s.urfer/conditioning.htm#what)

EDIT: Above link to prgram doesnt work try this here (http://www.benchmarkhq.ru/cgi-bin/click.cgi?18).

Use any stress test program but I recommend Prime95 or something.

And then get your temperature.

When overclocking heat occurs, you must get a better heatsink to get rid of the heat :D Or else it will limit your overclock.

2 Things really important about airflow:

Decent Heatsink
AIRFLOW

Without airflow your heatsink will most likely suck in hot air since there is no exhaust to pull the hot air from your case.

And I recommend the ThermalTake Volcano 6cu+ for Intel it is cheap for 14.00 and very efficent when lapped since Intel doesn't get hot at all.

And Arctic Silver II as your thermal compound.

Celeron 1GHz with no OCed. I do not think the temperature will be that high. I think you should check and see if your HSF seats correctly and you apply a little thermal paste like ASII on it. Save your money if you are not going to OC this chip. But, if you are going to, just take the advices from these people. They are all expert here.

And i'll just repeat whayt Yodums said:
Airflow in the case is very important if u don have fresh air in it and it's not circulating no matter which cooler do u have and no matter how good it's setup u won't b able to lower your temperatures. So if u find yourself in a dillema get some extra case fans and install them i bet my money in @ least 5°C temp drop
good luck

I agree.

I think Yodums is right on the mark...well said Yodums!

Well i dont really worry about airflow right now cuz my case is open. and i might add again that it is freezing in my basement. its so cold that right now im wearing long johns underneath and i have my wool socks and a a thick sweater on.

thnx for all the responses.

and no that i think about it...i must of done something very bad while installing the hsf. i tried 2 two types of hsf and i think i forgot to take off the excess thermal stuff that stuck to the core. i guess i thought at that time the more the better. oh well gonna go buy some paste today.

and also is that stuff hard to take off the core...do i need any special liquids to take it off??

thnx again to everyone here.
