How are the newish nvidia 185.85 drivers?

The last set left one of my computers so unstable that it BSOD'd while folding, but have been great for my other pc.

Should I update both of my computers to the new drivers?

Hows ppd?

oh and on a non folding related note do these drivers have ambient occlusion?

Thanks a bunch

I've been working on a new rig, but before I loaded up a new gpu driver, I'd check that it's getting good results on Stanford's fah forum. (Go to FAH's main home page, and click on "Forum" on the left hand side.

Like you, I was burned with the last new drivers. That was a case where the driver worked fine for some users, and trashed your gpu utterly, for others.

Sorry, not a gamer. I wouldn't know an ambient occlusion, if it moved in right across the street from me. :D

Yeah ambient occlusion is in them but disabled by default in the nvidia control panel, folding is the same as usual.

my 8600gts was having a lot of problems. my 8800gtx has never had any problems. There is something with the 8600 cards that makes them fold strangely. Right now I am only getting 450ppd with my 8600gts.

Mine is pulling those 353 pointers, doing 4 minutes a frame for around 1800ppd.. weird.. but sometimes it just crashes the client, something like machine unstable . weirddd...:bang head:santa:

Im doing a 5905 WU. I think I may just take off advanced methods on that pc.

Going with what I said earlier about my 8800... it is doing a 5905 WU @ well over 4k ppd.

I got rid of the console client on the "slow" computer and installed the sys tray client. I am not sure if anything is happening, but the gpu is up to the temperature that it usually gets to when it is folding, so I have high hopes. :)

I just got a 275 and the first set of drivers I installed was these 185.85's. Have to say that I was very upset when I loaded up GPU folding and found that I was unable to even browse the internet while folding because my computer was acting like i was running prime 95 on priority 10. I researched a bit and found out that it was these drivers causing it. Loaded up the 182.50's and now I am folding away and able to use my computer.

are you sure that the new drivers were not just using more of your gpu? Which could be a good thing.

Just a thought.

Positive. If anything I noticed a slight increase in production by using the older drivers.

Strange. These new drivers seem to be pretty bad overall. I would have kept them longer if ambient occlusion was usable under xp.

I have also noted a video lag with my 8600m gt... It freezes whenever I move a window around. Other than that as long as I dont touch it, it runs fine.

So would you all say that the 185.85 drivers aren't very, shall we say, usable? That the 182.50 or older is the way to go?
