I'm building a new water cooled system, and I'm trying to imagine what the best radiator would be...

I love the nuclear tower evaporation radiator design... and I was going to build my own version of it, but then today I saw some old single window air conditioning units... and I've heard that their radiators use copper tubing and aluminum fins, making the best coolers of all...

I can easily get my hands on a bunch of old air conditioners, so should I take that route, and maybe add a fan or two?

A cooling tower is much better then any radiator. I radiator is limited to ambient where as the cooling tower is limited to the wet bulb temp which is usually much lower then ambient.

This is my unit and it cools the water to within about 1°C of the wet bulb temp. My Duron 750@1000 is yet to break 37°C and that was when the ambient was 39°C.

Are they old FUNCTIONING air conditioners? If so you could go to active cooling. If not you could do a closed loop cooler and put the rad in a Bong. That makes it easy to clean the bong and you dont have to take everything apart.
