Hi guys I've just built my new rig an was just wondering if anyone else is having any trouble with there 4850 x2 gpu card playing older games, I've installed the latest drivers for my gpu an it runs farcry2, crysis, WOW, witcher ect without any hiccup, but I'm still having trouble running games such as homeworld2, doom an prey which I'd class as older games, these games do run, but they flicker like mad! I've patched all the games but still no joy, so I'm thinking there must be some conflict somewhere I just don't know where lol! So was wondering if any of you clever chaps have came across a similar problem and have hopefully fixed this?

UPS, I have w7, but I do not use it to play (I use Vista 64).
You can try to run the game under vista, or XP compatibility mode.
Also run it as administrator.

The only thing I could say is that Microsoft did not recommend putting Windows 7 on your main computer. I'd personally try using Vista or Windows XP.

Dunno how similar ATI is but my 9800GX2 had the same problem with older games, had to set it to single GPU mode to work properly with many of them.

Were you running Windows 7?
Either way, your explanation makes a lot of sense. Was just curious if you would have to do this with a different operating system. (Nice to know for possible future use, xD)

you can turn off crossfire, so only une gpu would work (yes, x2 cards also uses crossfire bt cores)
I think you can also achive it disabling catalyst ai

ty guys ill try that :) I managed to get prey to work without the flickering, by having it in windowed mode, but I've yet to try this with other older games.

Also got Homeworld 2 working in windowed mode, so it must be a conflict with windows 7 an some older games running in fullscreen mode, maybe?

Ratbuddy what OS were you running?

you need to limit your fps. Try enabling vertical sync and see if you can limit the fps through the games console. This is a crossfire issue. Or you can disable catalyst Ai. Essentially this is due to unsynchronised frames between the two cores. Still no fix from ati.

Ah thx m_k that does make alot of sense, sounds to me like ATI & Sapphire really do need to get there drivers updated, but the fact that I'm running Windows 7 64 might not help :)

I've now tried all the above, enabling vertical sync, disabling catalyst Ai, turning off crossfire but I just get no joy unfortunately :( the only way I've managed to fix this is by having the games in windowed mode, just seems a shame running a game in 1920 x 1200 windowed mode lol does AA work in windowed mode?

Have you tried that crossfire profile creator? I know it's over on the guru3d forum in the ATI drivers section.
