It's good enough for all of that.

I think the same model was at $400 on newegg that long ago. Toshiba must be having a hard time moving these, or have a boatload backstocked. Not a bad laptop for the price.

Just want to add that Toshiba support is absolutely horrid. I've been trying to get a working laptop since August 2006 when I bought it. It works right now, but it is slowly dying (insufficient cooling for the video card = dead video card, they can't seem to grasp the concept of their failed ideas). They've basically screwed me out of a $4000 laptop.

So, if you get it, I really hope you don't have to call them ;)

this is junk, if you need somethign decent and dependable pickup a t42 or t43 ibm on ebay, you save money and the IBM will last much longer. Not to mention these toshibas are made out of graham crackers.

This is the debate

2005 BMW or a 2009 KIA ?

Yeah i'd choose the BMW too.

Unless things have changed in the last 2 years since I quit Circuit City Toshiba build quality is only second to IBMs. They're solid rigs.
More like BMW M3 vs Pontiac G8 GXP.

Toshiba is not a bottom end laptop manufacturer, but this is close to the bottom end for their lineup. IBM/Lenovo is starting to slip so while the older Txx series thinkpads are really solid machines, their newer Lenovo badged stuff isn't of the same standard.

Also want to add that the manufacturing process and standardization of part manufacturer/distributors for laptop components is closing the gap on laptop build quality across the board. There's 2 key areas I tell customers to research when looking at laptops - quality of the LCD display and the technical support. These are areas manufacturer's tend to skimp to cut corners and save on the costs, which obviously makes the price tag competative but can lead to other isues later on when you need their support or your LCD dies after only a year (nudges Acer).

Dell's technical support is probably the easiest I've had to work with, HP being second easiest, and IBM's being third. This is strictly from a desktop/laptop support point of view. Server support Dell still takes first, but IBM is a close second. HP not so much for business/server support.
