So there I was, booted into dos with a boot disk and playing wolfenstein (as in the really old one cause my hard drive was broke) and I kept wondering why my system locked up. Checked the temps, and it read

:9 (sic)

So I was thinking, hmmm, why is it :9 and not a real temp? so I keep playing for 30-40 mins, and the system kept locking up.

I turn off, check inside the case, and to my horror the fan on my Alpha pal 8045 wasn't plugged in!! EEK!!

So anyhoo, I sorted that and when the bios started reporting temps of 90 degrees C and dropping I was happier *phew* Thank god I had a nice heat sink, it may have saved my bacon!!

okay, so how many lives are left? hmmmm..... This is making me go grey. ahhh would be nice but I'm balding quicker

My question.... temps going as high as they probably did, did it ruin the arctic silver 2? Now it's working fine don't get me wrong, but idle temps have jumped up to 37 rather than 31 a few days ago... Hmmmm, should I reapply AS2 or is that just my system or what?

BTW just a FYI only, a friend bought a 1900+ chip in the UK and it came unlocked, even tho the store said it wasn't... bizarre....

id reapply, as intense heat can kinda take away from teh god effects of it, also it will make u feel more secure about it, which is a good thing.

Odd, they shouldn't have dropped.

Try cleaning the core + heatsink with alcohol then reapply with the thinest layer of ASII on the core(Put ASII onto the heatsink then take a blade and take little by little until you fill the core completely with the thinest layer then rub the heatsink for 2-3 mins and put on the heatsink.)

Make sure you don't touch the core or heatsink after its been cleaned off with the alcohol as skin cells do effect.

And remember that ASII takes 48 hours to settle.

If you got your CPU hot enough to disturb the Arctic Silver, your CPU would be toast. From Arctic Silver's Web Site:
Extended temperature limits: – 40°C to >160°C
