a buddy just recently asked me if a SCSI is any good, naturally..... i said i had no idea XD, so i was doing a bit of looking up and i must say i am falling in love with them with each review i read, but i wanted to get some opinions from people who "USE" them and not just test em for a few days and toss a review up....
the one i currently have my eyes on is the Seagate Cheetah, main reason is all my desktop's have used Seagate harddrives and i havent had one fail on me yet...
For the price, you might as well go w/ SSD. They are expensive. I have not touched them in years though, due to the price.

SCSI is getting old now, SAS is all the rage these days.
I wouldn't reccomend SCSI for dekstop use really, if you want too sure, but its expensive and cumbersome imho for dekstop use.

hmmmmm
Seagate Cheetah 146GB for 325 bucks (http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=14120DR3287&vpn=ST3146855LC&manufacture=SEAGATE)
G.SKILL FM-25S2S-128GB 2.5" 128GB SATA II for 290 bucks (right now its on sale so i save 20 bucks....) (http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231221)
so lets figure this out here
128GB @ 290 bucks = aprox 2.27 per GB
146GB @ 325 bucks = aprox 2.22 per GB and this one has more space to!
so im getting a better bang for my buck with the SCSI.... (i had already considered a SSD then i did some numbers and found in MOST cases you get better bang for buck with SCSI :P)

hmmm thats a new term in my books, will have to do some looking up on this SAS =D, and it wouldnt be for desktop use :P...well not this one anyways XD, would be for a work station for the videos i edit (i do alot of filming for events where i am....)
Keep in mind, 15000rpm drives tend to be a bit loud... and warm.

sound = no prob, as i usually have a headset on (now that my sisters home from school i cant really have my speakers up to much..... and when shes gone, i got my speakers quite loud......)
and as for temp ill end up (more then likley) getting the Antec 900 for my workstation comp, so a fan would be blowing on it.....
and i could allways order something like THIS (http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=ODM=).....
You'll also need a good controller card for the SCSI drive so add that to the cost as well.

No. Not any recent boards, and absolutely not on any consumer-class boards. SCSI is obsolete, replaced with SAS, and even that's rare to find onboard, except for some server-class boards.
A good quality controller card is probably going to run you $75 or so on the used market, and you'd need a motherboard with the right expansion slots to support it.
I agree with everyone else, between the two, get the SSD, and just forget about SCSI.

alrighty, thanks for the input, any recommendations for a SSD then?
The OCZ Vertex seems to be the popular choice around here now. Intel SSDs are also good, but are more pricey.

yes but SSD has superior seek times, for the price of SCSI for what your doing, it isnt worth it
SCSI excels in MULTI-USER environments where alot of sources are accessing the same disk, just go buy aSATA raid card and make some raid 0 working drives and your done with for video editing.
Desktop / workstation usage is not as great vs servers environments. SCSI is old, period and there are better alternative already out.
Or just get an intel board and use ICH9/10R raid onboard and make 2 raid 0 arrays with 2 drives each and there you go!
