Recommend me a heatsink that utilizes all three lugs on the socket, looks decent, and is under $35.
And the DragonOrb isn't an option.
S370 or Socket A.
GlobalWin SAK38 (http://www.overclockers.com/articles518/). $23.00 from my neck of the woods.

Hmmm....not bad. Cheap, will look good in a plexi case, and Global-Win performance.....
Anyone else?
Millennium Glaciator II - 35.00
or
The CoolerMaster Heatpipe - 40.00
Those would be my two choices especially the Glaciator + Lapped :D

You don't need to lap the Glaciator unless the surface managed to get damaged during shipping. (or you get the OEM one) They give it a very nice finish when they mfr it.
Here's (http://www.overclockers.com/articles519/) another Globalwin for ya, Kingslayer. :)
I'd lap anyways. People are getting lots of better results with lapping G2 then just keeping it normal.

The glaciator II uses all 3 lugs? My origional glaciator only uses the middle:confused:
And as for the surface, what is this about it not needing to be lapped? Mine looks plenty flat and all, but there is a big visual difference between the base being nice and flat and the base being lapped. I really like that mirror look you get from 2000 grit wet sandpaper. Then again, that could just be all visual, with no significant boost in performance.

This is what i use little more in price about 40 bucks but the best you can find.
Why mess around...go for the gusto...and get the Swiftech
MCXC 370 , ready here..... http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/
Best of all of 'em except it's big brother....even beat out the Alpha 8045
I moved up from a AlphaPal 6035 and picked up about 3 degrees cooler using a little slower fan....great HS!
You can get one at www.bestbytes.com for about $40 with a Papst 33cfm fan.......

At the Pomona computer show, I got a Swiftech MCXC370 for the grand total of...
$37.88!
I so love computer shows. On Pricewatch, it's closer to the 50 dollar mark...
I priced an Alpha PAL8045 yesterday for $29.99 through Pricewatch or Streetprices.com yesterday, that's without a fan. I lapped mine, but probably didn't need to.

The Glaciator 2 does NOT use all three pairs of socket lugs. Some people just don't read what the requirements of Kingslayer are:rolleyes:
Here is some proof;

Remember that lapping is to get the base as flat as possible for best performance & NOT for use as a mirror.

The Dynatron DY1206BH-638 or the OCZ Goliath (available at
Crazy PC (http://www.crazypc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=120199&Product_Code=5045)). I believe they are the same heatsink. I have the Goliath and it works well.

The reason that I need one that uses three lugs is because I inherited this board because it was missing the center lug. Victim of a waterblock being overtightened.
I would run the orb. But I despise them.

just because you bought alpha doesn't mean it's the best. mc462
is. granted alpha is the best cooler if you are on a budget.

I have the 462 and it is by far the best. The only reason I bought it was because there is nothing as yet that cools better. When it comes to putting something on my W.I.F.E., I do not worry about price.
Cheap is not how you keep your love happy. :D
Its all good....
