Help ,please need help with memory timings

P5B-Deluxe
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700
Corsair DDR2 TWINX 2GB PC6400 DHX C4
Part number CM2X1024-6400C4D

The problem is when i set my bios to defualt, the memory timings in the

bios say 5 5 5 18
and in CPU-Z it says

Memory Type DDR2
Memory Size 2048 MBytes
Memory Frequency 285.0 MHz (1:1)
CAS# Latency (tCL) 5.0 clocks
RAS# to CAS# (tRCD) 6 clocks
RAS# Precharge (tRP) 6 clocks
Cycle Time (tRAS) 18 clocks
Command Rate (CR) 2T

and on the SPD page of CPU-Z
it says
JEDEC #1 270 MHz 4.0 4 4 13 15 1.8V
JEDEC #2 400 MHz 5.0 5 5 18 22 1.8V
EPP #1 400 MHz 4.0 4 4 12 22 2.100V

But iv just set my bios settings to 4 4 4 12. and the cpuz reads, should i have done this ?

Memory Type DDR2
Memory Size 2048 MBytes
Channels Dual (Symmetric)
Memory Frequency 400.0 MHz (2:3)
CAS# 4.0
RAS# to CAS# 4
RAS# Precharge 4
Cycle Time (tRAS) 12
Command Rate 2T

and on the SPD page of CPU-Z
it should say the same ?
JEDEC #1 270 MHz 4.0 4 4 13 15 1.8V
JEDEC #2 400 MHz 5.0 5 5 18 22 1.8V
EPP #1 400 MHz 4.0 4 4 12 22 2.100V

Is this right ?
what is the SPD PAGE about ? the jedec ?
also if i over clock my cpu to 2.9 or 3.0 would the timingshave to be

changed ?
thanks for any replys in advance

What you did was correct, those are the settings they are rated at. The SPD is what settings they are programmed to default at, hence why you had manually change them.

You need to go back and change to ratio from 2:3 to 1:1. Up ratios do not do you any favors.

OCing your CPU to 3.0Ghz will not require you to change anything an the ram side as you will still be running under 400Mhz on the FSB, assuming you are not planning to drop the multiplier.

hi , thanks for that
but how do i change the ratio from 2:3 to 1:1
iv just uped the core to 2880 mhz (x10) and this is what i get

if i change the timings to 4 4 4 12 , the ratio is 2:3 and dram freq is 400 and something mhz , and wouldnt start at some point

if i set enable SPD , the timings change to 5 6 6 18 , the ratio 1:1 and dram freq is 288 mhz

im stuck ?

could you suggest a core speed and dram frequency and timings for this processer and ram ?

thanks again for any help given, iv tried reading loads of posts but im still stuck

Don't get stuck on SPD, forget it.

In your BIOS there is an option for the memory ratio, I am not sure exactly where it is on your particular BIOS.

What voltage do you have your RAM set at? You are going to run well under 400Mhz and that's fine. If it is set to low that would certainly cause instability. 2.2V is the high end you want to see. Try 2.1.

Go take a look in the CPU section for a good OC faq. You just can't throw in settings that worked for someone else, well you can but it is not the way to go. Take your time and do it right.

hi, thanks for the help
iv just had a look at the overclocking stickys on the CPU section and they look great, il have a sit down and read them
My RAM voltage was set to auto but it sounds like i need 2.1 like u recomend
cheers, il have a read
