i won an palit 8800gtx of ebay for just under 20.00
and i am useing it right now,but it has red lines going right down the screen, sort of like a chessboard
is there a way to fix thees? i think i read somewhere about disableing certain pipelines or something?
the graphics card physically does not look damaged, and all the temps are fine.
any help would be appriciated :)
thanks again

Not sure on this one...
checked your psu output... its fine
looked around for any 8800gtx issues nothing generic too them.
could be a bios setting somewhere maybe.

but most likly a duff card, could of had a good bounce or knock.... thats how my first GTX280 was screwed up I think (there was a dint in the corner of the box when I bought it) and it went just like that before it blew :(

hang in a little while and see if anyone knows anything.

just try maybe running the Q66 at default speeds for a boot or so, you never know when something presents overclocked.

it may turn out to be a rma or refund job see what people think....

try re-seating the card two because the power in question for my 280 was from the board itself... thoes pins on the card at the end with the notch after them (the small run of pins)

ok, i contacted them about RMA and i am awaiting a reply
i have tried the graphics card in two completly different systems, and am sure it is getting enough from my psu.
after installing the nvidia drivers, it no longer gets past the welcome screen
i tihnk i will try flahsing the bios mabye?

roll back the nvidia drivers if you can and see two.

use drivesweep to remove all the older driver dll`s and duplicates properly.

it may be a driver thing but it doesnt sound likely.

but yes the latest board bios if its not current may resolve something.

wouldnt risk flashing the card though if your thinking rma.

guru3d.com <--- get all your needed stuff from there but dont use any beta drivers until weve found some clue as to what the current problem is.

be carefull not to remove any board drivers with drivesweep :)
just the card and physics nothing else.

did you lock the graphics clock in bios to 100 when you clocked the Q66?

that could be doing it. make sure the GPU bios related switches are all standard and not turbo or whatever.
not sure if its your sig machine your trying it in?

ok will try that asap

i just found out about the 8800 resistor issues,
and mine says 223
http://forums.legitreviews.com/about7061.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Palit/GeForce8800GTX/4.html

but im not sure what it is meant to say?

it triggers some kind of overprotection when not needed and can is essentialy a RMA job but if your brave you can try replacing the resistor....I wouldnt if a RMA`s possible.

maybe try to identify which revisions it plagues. my second 280 was a later recision and didnt suffer the same flakey power circuit.

note. I may dissapear for a while because ive just got a new PSU I desperatley need to install.... red line racin! (cheaper to get it done before the weezle goes pop)
its too cold from the back of the van to fire up just now though :)

ok basically i have figured that it is the actuall graphics card itself
so i can either RMA it ( i am waiting for a reply from palit)
or i could under clock it ( but for this i need to get into windows, wich i cant do with this card)

sorry antipesto93 I had to go out on a run... stuff to do :)

no onboard graphics?
has it gave up the display alltogether ?
or just not happy since you played with the drivers?
safe mode not a winner?
no old gpu`s hangin around?

feel for your situation... sold a duff, typical UK #Laughs#

note. think I just bought a PSU for no reason theres £200 stupid for ya.... Dingbat!

just bought a psu for no reason! wow lol
anyway, i have figured its the actual hardware ,
so the last option is to flash the bios, i will get a floppy disk for tomorrow and try it then

antipesto93 just a thought this super dooper priced 8800GTX wasnt being sold as a fixable?
seems a hell of a good price :) (if working)

Found this little extract that may explain that im forgetting more than I ever new... ergo less than zero

what kind of noise is it making? A nice happy whirring noise, or a deeper, grinding kind of noise?

If the latter, you should prob replace the fan. For £2.50 for a new fan, it's better than having the fan spike and take out everything between the PSU and it (eek! if you have the fan plugged into your mobo)

However it's unlikely if it's pumping out lots of air. How dusty is the case? That can make em make horrible noises too.

overclockers are good, btw, and so are kustomPCs, bought lots of lovely things from there and have had great service every time.

I'd disagree with Loki - a normal fan, yeah, run it slower, but on a puter, it's asking for trouble and spiking. Remember, a spike will take out everything between the PSU and it's destination!

when in doubt blaim something simple.

excuse me antipesto93 does nothing to fix your 88GTX :(

maybe im spread too thin to be use to man nor beast (well except thoes brown bears im gonna be living with... bet they have `n idea when they meet people #Chuckles#) still I guess bears dont own AK-47`s :D bubblehead at one with nature...unless its dinner time.

I want one :(

yup! well after reading your post, i went to ebay, and thourght i would try it out , as i have never been too good with graphics cards, but now, i think ime getting to the bottom of em' its givent me something to do :) i was running out of little projects

btw i will flash the bios 2moz evening - i never knew a floppy disk would be so hard to get my hands on! - had to go deep into the atic to get my old floppy drive out :)

ok so i finalllyyyy flashed the bios with the same version
butttt still i have artifacts everywhere

so i take it its impossible to fix because its a physical hardware error?

Sounds like the vRAM (or some contact to the vRAM) is bad. You could always try the oven trick, but it looks like this card is destined for RMA or spare parts.
