View Full Version : Looking for a good DVD player
I'm looking for something to watch movies. Something preferably under $80 and atleast 12x. I'm looking for quality over speed.
I've never had a dvd drive before so I have no clue. my brother told me to get a toshiba 12x drive.

The Pioneer DVD-106S looks pretty good.

dude, you need to seriously check out this drive. at www.tccomputers.com they have a AOpen DVD-164- PRO for $79.99, same drive that i have but mine cost me $100 a few months ago. very fast (16x40x) and reliable. its also a slot load so it looks really good.

like i said, its in your range, faster than 12x, and very reliable and fast. give it a look.

This sites hilarious,I have the exact same question and Boom first thread.I'm looking at buying one for my wife, all she will be doing is watching movies & listening too tunes(cdr's).
The place I'm looking at has basically 3 choices all 16X,toshiba,pioneer(105's),and sony.I hear they have different cache(128kb,256,and 512).Does cache make a dif when just reading.
I'm leaning towards the pioneer, because the one brand of toshiba they got is supposedly having problems reading CD-R's?
Its also the one with only 128kb cache. There all the same $.
I ordered the Pioneer DVD-106S so I'll let you know how it performs in a week or so. I think I'm going to order the dynamat and some ester foam for my case next week as well. when its all done maybe i'll buy a cheap camera and post some pic in the mod section.
