Gateway 7805FX XP no sound

I have a gateway 7805 laptop. I'm running XP on it. I managed to get everything working except the sound. Device manager says no proplem with the device except in sound properties it says the is no audio device. This seems a bit unusual. Anyone have experience messin with the 7805 and XP?

Wondering if there is sme generic drivers out there?

uninstall the modem driver, and install the audio driver again.
