The 9800GT 512Mb is running 70c to 73c with just my folding clients running. I'v quit being able to OC much.
I cleaned it out ad thought mabye the thermal compound went bad so I was going to replac it. To my surprise, there are 10 chips in a half circle around the GPU. But they don't have just thermal compond but a thermal pad that has to be a certian thickness for this card.
EVGA forums are coming up with very little so far so do any of you guys have some info on this?

I've been re-applying thermal compound to all 9 of my 8800/9800 series folding GPUs. I just focus on the GPU chip itself and notice a decent drop in temps(10~15C) after cleaning up the old compound and putting new on.

As for OCing- for folding there is almost no gain(except more heat) in upping the core and mem clocks; just clocking the shaders is what improves production. Some people underclock the core to reduce heat, with little measurable drop in pointd.

The thermal pads are common on just about every card on the market. They're used on the RAM chips.

Clean the core and HS w/ isopropyl alcohol and apply new paste. I use MX-2 and it works great.
