I have a Logitech Quick Cam. Anyways, the bad news is that I sorta busted up my video camera which I usually use to transfer video to my cpu via ATI TV Wonder VE card. So I have to use a webcam for the moment. The abd news is that it seems the Webcam doesn't have the FPS that a normal camera has. Is this a problem with the camera itself or that I'm not using the right software (I'm using the QuickCam software) Should I use other software not made by Logitech?
What's the interface on your webcam versus your normal camera? USB only trasmits at 12Mb, so it's naturally gonna be slow, if your webcam is USB and your normal cam is firewire (400Mb).
The newer QuickCams can capture up to 30 FPS but under normal circumstances you are probably not going to even get 24 FPS so dont expect to get full motion video from a QuickCam. There are alot of variables that can affect the capture rate, the biggest being lighting. You cant compare the optics of a QuickCam with that of a camcorder, they are really designed for different purposes. If you need high quality, full motion video then you need to go buy yourself a new camcorder. The software you use to capture the video is not going to make a significant difference in FPS of the video.

Well, I found a way to get faster frame rate. Seems like both the Quickcam program and Coffeecup Web Cam let's u put the frame rate up, (I put it at 27, about MPEG 2 quality) It's a bit blurry at times where action is fast but at least it doesn't skip
I'm just wondering here, but what is the best compression to use when your making moves via a web cam? The two most obvious options I have are DivX 4.11 and WMA compression?
And yes I have found that lighting will affect the frame rate. When I plan to record, I'll bring down about 5 lamps and a couple small spotlights, lol
coffeecup???
Is that software good? and what does it do?

Coffee Cup is a company that produces lots of software. Gif animators, html Editors, ftp clients, etc.... They are decent products, just not top of the line. That's okay though, because their trial versions tend to be full blown and run forever. Their html editor is the only one I use (other than notepad). It's really just a text editor with tag coloring and quick buttons to add stuff. It doesn't add extra, worthless, and confusing code like frontpage and ultradev sometimes like to do (mostly cause it's not wysiwyg, though it does have a browser test button).
