My friend has an old VPR Matrix Harddrive (IBM Travelstar 40G), we were moving files back and forth and getting ready to copy files over to another computer.
What he was copying were his WOW folders to patch the Lich King Expansion on a computer having trouble downloading and installing the expansion normally. He figured the patches and even the Expansion just appended and modified content folders and not core files that allow a user to run the game, which the computer already had the game installed. It just needed the patches.
Copying his entire WOW directory over to his external HD, the one from the laptop, a folder corrupted and stopped the transfer. To try the transfer again we tried clearing the drive of the temp data from the faulted transfer. One of the folders however would not delete. And would not even let us browse in the folder. Even disconnecting the drive and reconnecting didn't allow us access into the folder.
So we decided to just erase the hard drive anyway since he already had all the information off of it and backed up. BTW the hard drive in question is in a USB case.
We simply format the drive with XP expecting it to work, but as soon as it finishes we get an error telling us the drive cannot be formatted.
Then we try browsing the drive, and it tells us the drive isn't formatted, but we can't even format it now. Now we have dead drive, and haven't gotten a jump on patching the game on the other computer.
Can I get the usability back from the drive? And if so how?
Any light on this mess would be appreciated.
