Hi everyone. First post here in the Sound section. Well, here's my situation.
I've got a home studio, as well as a band. We have played together for a few years and have acquired some nice gear. We would record into a BR-1600cd multitrack. This, combined with accurate playing and good gear, can achieve very close to Pro Studio quality recordings. The only problem was it couldn't burn CDs (probably a defect). Well, I have a Dazzle DVC100 vid cap card, and RCA outputs on the multitrack, so I figured I could just get the final product, press play, and record into Audacity.

Here's the problem: Unfortunately, Audacity will recognize the device, but it won't ever record the sound. I know it works, because I made a "movie" in windows movie maker using the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGF-394OOvQ and it worked. I have tried other programs, and none can capture audio from the DVC100. I don't want to have to buy an "audio capture device" if I have one that can do Video and Audio. Heck, windows even recognizes the audio section as "DVC100 Audio Device" and the video as "DVC100 Video Device".

I suppose an Audacity or Dazzle forum would be more appropriate. But I know this community and I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people here, so I figured I would ask you guys.

As for the Dazzle card, the only generic advice I can give is to make sure Windows has it selected as it's default recording device.

Can't use the USB interface on the BR-1600CD to just copy the WAV format data to your computer? That would be the best option.

A digital audio connection SPDIF from BR-1600CD to your PC would be the next best choice. You'll have to make sure the SPDIF settings match on both sides of the wire and that Windows will use the SPDIF digital input as it's default recording source.

I believe the USB saves it in a .br or some propriatary format that can only be read by other BR-1600 or higher. If it DOES do it in .wav that would be way more than ideal ;) I'm going to try what you recommended (default rec device) next time I set up the recorder in here, should be by tonight. edit: I know what SPDIF is, I drew a blank :PSPDIF requires a soundcard does it not? Or is it just a 1/8" plug like comp speakers? The dazzle isn't a card, btw, it's an RCA/USB interface, I misstyped in my post. Would that make any difference?

SPDIF coax cable is like an RCA (stereo) cable.
I'll check into the format conversion thing.

Well, tried makin the Dazzle the default recording device. No change in Audacity from it. Still can only get sound through Windows Movie Maker. I'm probably gonna get a soundcard, or a dedicated audio interface, like an M-Audio or something. Gotta look around and research. Any suggestions on that? I will always use the BR as the recorder, so I only need a card or device that can recieve RCA and put it into my computer.

It usually goes, for live recording: All our instruments into Behringer mixer, 2 outs to the BR, and then you can mixdown and master (gotta have a single stereo track) and from there, it's BR to Computer, play on the BR, record on Audacity. So yeah, I just need something that will properly capture my audio, I just had the Dazzle and didn't want to buy something new if I didn't have to.
