i doubt its the hard drive... Probably Windows 7 seeing how they still working on it, remember one more release to go, if they stick to vista's plan. Just try to update ur HD driver or just keep ignoring till it finally goes away lol

see if your bios has a hard drive check utility or use the disk check for bad sectors

The WD diagnostic utility for windows should be able to read the "smart" data from the drive and tell you what the error is/was. I would, just as a precaution, run through the tests available with the WD software just to rule out a failure of the drive itself though. It wouldn't be a great thing to lose the potential amount of data that drive can store... :bang head
It could be as simple as a bad cable, or even the drive not spinning up fast enough out of a sleep cycle, and "timing out" causing a "smart event" to be recorded in windows (and possibly the drive).
I had a WD drive that used to throw those errors all day long. It's still running fine, I just don't ever let it "sleep" when in use anymore, and it's never once lost any data and passes any torture tests I can throw at it...

Awesome man you got my hopes up lol
i want to run those tests but i dont want those tests to push the drive off the edge if it is about to die... so i want to backup my drive before i do it lol
i have about 600 more gigs to go :attn:

Wow, I would have never thought it was that bad of a failure... sorry to hear. At least WD will replace the drive, unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done about the data...
It happens though, but just after one reallocation error? Or were there multiple and Windows finally decided to report it... Talk about dropping dead... I'm guessing a head took a dump... You could try sticking it in the freezer for a while and then trying to recover the rest of the data, it has worked many times in the past for many people...
Again, sorry to hear of such an unexpected failure...

yea its in the freezer right now lol i stuck it in there lastnight and i forgot to take it out...if you hadnt told me it wouldve been there for a while haha
the threshold was 140 and by the time i got those errors and checked the smart info it was down to 44... so im guessing windows detected it kinda late??
and yea i called wd up and their going to send me a new one...
