it happens in 2k also as i get that error and dont even got XP installed anymore
I had to use 21.83 with XP Pro b/c of infinite loop and my chipset is Intel 815 so I think its just a software issue with the driver

Try using Detonator Destroyer and reinstall the drivers. I had the error when i installed the 22.80's over the 21.83's. I did the above and installed the 22.80s and didnt get the error ever since. Hopefully it will stay that way.

I have already posted the latest 4 in 1 drivers in the 23.11 Detonator driver question.....you can go there or to www.viahardware.com to download the 4.37 version of the 4 in 1 driver from VIA.
The problem arises with the 23.xx and above Detonators as they seem to address that VIA didn't use. When the nVidia driver tries to address that place in the Northbridge an error ocurrs: it can just crash, or pop an infinite loop error.
This was corrected with the latest 4 in 1 drivers. And as this is a problem between VIA and nVidia it can arise in any version of Windows that is using any of the Detonator XP drivers (version 23.xx and above)

Funny this should come up. I'm at work looking for a fix to simmilar problem but with the Nvidia Vanta chipsets. In win2K you can use the drivers that come with the OS, and not install any up dated drivers. It's not the Via drivers causing the problem (in my case anyways). I've narrowed it down to the Nvidia drivers, and I'm still searching for ones that will work.
*EDIT* It also only affects the Intel crowd, I tried it on my AMD test rig, and ran into no problems. Remember, the problem I'm working on is for the Vanta chipset from Nvidia, but the two might be related.
