Wow, glad I caught that as I normally get 1920 points/22/hrs. I have changed nothing in VM 1.08 or Ubuntu 8.04, as it 'just worked' I have since restarted the Ubuntu, no joy. I then deleted work folder and client so it could start anew, same difference. The log looks a bit weird to me with the three extra nodes entries IIRC. Thanks as always.

5 hours per frame is definately screwy. You don't show any progress in your log. Are you sure you don't have a host name problem and are making no progress at all?

If you check the Host name in networking in Ubuntu, does it match what FAH thinks the host name is?

The log file you posted only runs from 20:06 to 20:07.

Yes, but I posted that a half hour later and still the same now. I'll try to find the original log.

At ChasR, I have no idea of where to find the hostname. I'm very new to *nix. I was about to delete VMWare but thought I'd better ask here first.:)

Thanks, name is augie-desktop as it should be. Time to hit the feedbag and some sleep. I'll keep this running overnight to give ya'll an idea in the morning. I'll post it up. gn

If you have no decent folding going on, I'd delete queue.dat unitinfo.txt and the contents of the work folder, after you stop it with power off, rather than just suspend.

When you re-start it, you may get the same WU again a couple of times (which is Stanford's default in order to re-try WU and stop "cherry picking").

After that, you should be good.

2% in 12 hours of folding is definitely wrong. In System Monitor, what percent of cpu cycles is the folding thread (any one of them), getting?

System >> Applications >> System Monitor

Augie, how much RAM have you allocated to this VM?

Try switching to VM Workstation if you are using VMWare Player. You will thank me if you do.

Around %25 each with affinity set to the first two cores for a total od %50 which is normal for me.

Tried that about 5 times today and always got the exact same WU down to the clone # I gave them at least an hour to produce a frame where my normal time is ~14min.

Augie, how much RAM have you allocated to this VM?

I give it the max which is around 3.3GB as I'm running Vista Ult X86. I have changed nothing since it has been running steady for the last few months.

Hang on there, I did install SP1 on June 1st. That's all that I can think of that might have affected it. I remember PCTools firewall having a fit asking to allow the various FAH processes through but thought nothing of it ATT. Perhaps the issue lies in the FW?

EDIT: However, my GPU is going normally.

EDIT2: I allowed full connectivity to anything dealing with VMWare, keeping fingers crossed.:D

Wooo Hooo!!!!! It was the firewall after all! :santa: I hope this :bang head of mine helps someone else.;) Thanks for the help in twigging my brain folks! And sorry for wasting your time too.:( I should have known something like that when it stared me right in the face.

It's amazing at how some seemingly innocuous things rear up their ugly heads. This is one lesson I'll never forget.:)

EDIT:I don't profess to know why it was taking me 5hrs. to complete a frame because of the FW but it's working properly now. Phew!:) If anyone knows why then please post.:) I'll assume that there is constant chatter between the VM and the servers that was being blocked.

Glad you found and fixed it!

You can't allocate all your ram to the VM without having serious useability problems. 1GB is plenty.
It isn't your firewall. It is a bad WU. Notice the number of steps in yours:

[22:42:18] Completed 24716 out of 6781886 steps (0%)
[03:00:36] Completed 67819 out of 6781886 steps (1%)

It should have 250000.

p2669 from one of mine:

[20:33:47] Completed 200000 out of 250000 steps (80%)
[20:43:19] Completed 202500 out of 250000 steps (81%)

Ooh man, good eye! I obviously never saw that, or should I say noticed it.:( I'll give you the bad WU but the firewall was interfering with my getting a new WU as far as I know.

As soon as I changed the FW permissions I got the new WU. It's still a 2669 but it has 250000 steps and is folding as a champ.:) Thanks ChasR.
