Does the cpu make noise?

Does the cpu make noise? Or is what I'm hearing the hard disk?

You CPU shouldn't be making noise. If it is then be watching for smoke. :D No really, I'm sure what you are hearing is the hard drive. Few components actually make noise. Your fans, and your hard drives are really about it. Your CD drive makes noise when its reading...but you should only get noise from moving components...and seeing as most everything is electrical...it doesn't make noise that you can hear with your ear.
