1. Halo 1 / 2 / 3
2. UT 2004 / Unreal Championship
3. L4D
4. CoD4
5. CoD5

Counter Strike Source, because at almost EVERY single lan i have ever went to this was played, and for good reason, its an amazing game!
CoD4
UT 2004
L4D
BF2
and for the "Lan Games" i would have to add Starcraft, Warcraft 3 and Civ 4..... (my buddies like RTS more then FPS, lol, so iv gotten kind of hooked to a few of em' myself....)

Indeed.
Have to say some of the best games for LAN's that I've had, mind you they are small 3-4 people.
Diablo II
Age of Empires I, II, & III
Supreme Commander
Ghost Recon/GRAW/Rainbow 6 Vegas
Sins of a Solar Empire
And any other game to play in Co-op that we have. Sure L4D will be added to the list in due time, once we get around to it.

Oh snap! This dude just dropped a "BOLO" on us! Man I used to play Bolo on my parents PowerMac... omg I had a 56k connection but whenever I actually found someone to play with it was amazing... one of the first online gaming experiences for me...

Haven't tried it but I can already see how it would be a million times better in LAN than online.
Someone tries to ragequit on me, I go and smack them.

nothing beats the sound of someone screaming after getting massacred by lings...
starcraft!
CS is pretty good, but for LAN, I'd say that Unreal Tournament (Original is AWESOME) is definitely a LAN shooter.
Lord of Destruction ftw! And Q3 still has it alll, even after all those years!
I stumbled over this page a few days ago: http://www.network-games-collection.com/
There's a tutorial on how to play the best game in history GTA San Andreas multiplayer. Does anyone have ever tested that?
All good suggestions, but like SolidSnake said, going to have to go with Unreal Tournament as the best LAN game.

Personal favorites:
1. Alien vs Predator - nothing beats biting off your buddy's head
2. Team Fortress 2 - everyone can enjoy their own play style
3. Starcraft - separates the generals from the grunts
4. Call of Duty - best spawning system ever invented
5. Quake III Arena - in Q3 the mouse is attached to the cross-hair bulls-eye, not a box where your bullets *might* land

I've been loving the hell out of the nazi zombies "Shi No Numa" COD:WaW map on XBL lately, probably my favorite online game right now. At lan parties, DoW: Soulstorm is the funnest RTS, before that my long-lived favorite was good old Brood War. TF2 is another fun one we've been playing at lan parties. I'm really looking forward to the new Modern Warfare 2 later this year. :attn:

1. Company of Heroes!
2. Battlefield 1942 Forgotten Hope
3. Left 4 Dead
4. CS Source
I found out that the best games =/= the best LAN party games...
Often people don't own the newer games, because they are cheap.
Then it comes down to the number of people that requires to have fun with. In my case, BF2 type of larger scaled games just are not fun with so few people that available at LAN.
They seem to like older games such as
Starcraft,
Warcraft3,
Age of empire 2,
counter-strike 1.6,
renegrade
It took a while just to get Age of Empire 3 going at our LAN parties.
It is very difficult to get any newer games going.
Didn't know that you could play San Andreas multiplayer properly. that game always runs pixelated on my computer. Maybe i should change the video setup.
most of our lans are roughly 8-10 people, Normally we just play FPS games considering no one is into RTS anymore :( Last lan was CoD5 overnight for 8 hours.

hello,
me and my friend were having a debate about what the best LAN games are. i reckon my top 5 are:
1. Halo 1
2. CoD4
3. CoD5
4. BF2
5. GRID
What do you reckon are the top lan games out?
Halo? Sweet jesus...
I don't know what the point of all these "what's the best" this and that threads.
There's obviously as many answers to that as there are users who post to this forum. I could spend the next three paragraphs bashing your list, but I'll just come up with my own list and bash that one:
1. Warcraft III
2. UT2004
3. F.E.A.R. ...the first one.
Now Warcraft III came out right after I moved to France and... as far as I know... was more popular in French internet cafes than MS Word.
...but that's really kinda pathetic when you think about it. The ratio of women to men in France is 3:1 (roughly). And these cafes were ALWAYS filled with women. To think that such a large number of guys would've rather played Warcraft III... DISTURBS ME.
Nevertheless.. I loved the game. I never played it at a damned internet cafe though! WC3 was my post-coital cigarette: To be played only at home (and not necessarily at my home. And mostly in the nude.)
F.E.A.R. I bought in France but didn't play a single game of multi till I got back to the states. It was actually one of the first games we did here for the dearly departed "Game Nights" we had every thursday here on OCF.
I'm ready to stand on a stack of bibles and swear that the release of TF2 was the death of the game nights.
I can NOT stay interested in any SOURCE game for longer than 14 minutes. It's like pad thai to me. Once I ate too much pad thai and I haven't been able to eat any since.
7 years is too much SOURCE engine.

Hi..
What it all comes down to at a lan is speed. Our lans usually end up including starcraft, but only about one game because it takes too long. With this in mind, I bring you two perfect lan games, crazily high speed and not to difficult to learn... if you're not a *****. For the RTS genre, there is really only one thing I can suggest: Emperor: Battle for Dune. It's incredible speed ensures that within 5 minutes of your first game's start, one player will have been annihilated. Very balanced, but very fast gameplay. For the FPS genre, I give you a free game: Warsow. It is without a doubt the fastest fps there is. It's cell shaded graphics always look very clean, if not amazing, and the space-pun style is quite interesting. But Warsow's main draw is the speed: while you may walk at a slower speed by default than quake or unreal, it is highly unlikely you will be walking: bunny hopping, strafe jumping, rocket jumping, and plasma climbing are the staples of the game. It's not many games in which you see two people moving in opposite directions at 3x walking speed have a midair no-scope sniping firefight. Definitely a valuable addition to your lan games; if you can handle it.
