This one may only be for the British as I don't know if PC-World exists in the US (Lucky you)

Just wanted to know what people think of PC-World.

I was in there last week and overheard someone getting quoted £170 for a 256MB memory upgrade. What a rip-off.

Also heard one the the tech. Tw*ts saying "Don't be fooled by the Athalon XP model number, they don't run that fast and the Pentium is much faster". Not by the latest benchmarks, the P4 may be slightly faster but the P4 has a FSB off 100MHz and when the 133MHz model comes out you will have to buy a new motherboard and memory (If using Rambus) if you want to upgrade.

PC-World should be PC-Wan*ers

yes pc-world are expensive idiots, they know nothing about computers and slap an extra 40% at least on everything. Its for idiots who don't know where to buy computer hardware from, or don't know anything about computers.

I have to disagree about the Rdram boards, these boards are the most upgradeable for future processors than any others (it uses a 400mhz system bus - old pentium 3 used 100mhz, faster pentium 3 use 133mhz, plus the new northwood processors which don't require a new motherboard will last some time). But no one knows what will happen in the future so who knows.

the only way to buy computer hardware in england is to get it from the internet, still costs more than the states but way way cheaper than pc-world

Here in America, the only PC World I've heard of is the magazine.

wow, that really does take the **** with the memory. but dont flame pc world man. their a good shop if ur clever. their long term peripherals are cheap. ie. printer/scanner/zip etc. and just explain to me why you were in there, could it be to buy floppy disks or cds? well whatever you were buying its clearly cheaper than the internet hence you were in there! i hope pc world sells overpriced computers to everyone in the country, maybe then we could get a decent internet that ****in works! and actually sells stuff. rather than the ****e we have now.

you U.S. guys wont know what i'm talking about, but here in the uk we literally cant get half the stuff u can get, plus its more expensive by a lot more than the tax difference.

the only site that i know of in the uk that actually has a wide range of products is dabs, which has suddenly slashed alot of its prices :). they actually tell you more than the name of about 1/3 of their products too, but this should clearly be 100%.

what i dont get with dabs is i can get the following on a £9.33 network card
Weight 0.1 kg
Compliant Standards IEEE 802.3-LAN, IEEE 802.3U-LAN Plug and Play
Environmental Parameters Temperature: 0 ¦C - 55 ¦C Humidity: 10 - 90%

but i cant get diddly squat on a £120 quid dvd/cdrw combo drive.wtf why is there no info on this! and the philips website aint much use either, i think pc world would actually tell me more about it than that site.

and besides man if u buy a computer from pc world thats been on display u can get it for half the price that u can make it for urself. u just gotta be clever.

PC World are terrible. I have repaired a number of machines from them that were just out of warranty. Guess what - when you open them they are filled with the lowest grade components available - usually PC Chips mobos.
If any one is interested a really good reasonably priced supplier is www.novatech.co.uk . I get a lot from them and their service is really good.

Al Capone I have to disagree about the Rdram boards, these boards are the most upgradeable for future processors than any others (it uses a 400mhz system bus - old Pentium 3 used 100mhz, faster Pentium 3 use 133mhz, plus the new northwood processors which don't require a new motherboard will last some time).

Rdram currently has a clock speed of 100MHz but it is quad-clocked so that it runs at 400MHz. The latest Rdram will have a clock speed of 133MHz and thus have a speed when quad-clocked of 533MHz but the current mobo's will not support this higher clock speed. So if anyone wants to upgrade to the higher clock speed Rdram then they will have to buy a new mobo and the new memory will probably come at a premium.

p.s.
Al Capone yes pc-world are expensive idiots

Couldn't say it better myself. LOL.
