Hey guys. I have a question regarding cpu speed and average WU/day...

What's the average WU/Day assuming 24/7 crunching on Normal priority using SETI Driver on Windows xp or OS X for the following processors:

1Ghz P3
1Ghz Athlon
800Mhz G4

If there's a resource somewhere on the net that lists the speeds that would be great. You can extrapolate the WU/Day on an 800 using the data from a 1ghz p3 for example. So 1ghz is an excellent benchmark imo.

Further I'm assuming the floating point processor has a HUGE impact on crunch speed. So I would imagine it's more dependant on FPU then raw clock speed...

Thanks guys...

13oots2 was gathering some data about that.....check in the OC SETI Team site (http://www.ocsetiteam.com/bench.htm) and you might find some useful data there.....

check out the teams benchmark page for info

you cant really extraopolate times based on another PC
there are too many factors (ram, chipsets etc....)
also the clockspeed difference may not reflect a faster/slower cruncher

not to mention the different architechtures/designs of cpus

The largest collection I know of is here:

I dont know if this helps or not but my 1Ghz@1Ghz 133FSB Athlon on Epox 8KTA3 with PC133 256 Mb cl2 RAM (at work) and my P3 1100E@1308 also with 256Mb PC133 cl2 (at home) both take just over 6 hours on a normal WU

Duron 900@1.2 on the EPOX was about 6.5 hours per WU

My T-brd 900@980 is getting into the low to mid 6's per WU. The Celeron 1100@1100 runs high 11s ... the most critical part of WU crunching is the amount of CPU cache a prcoessor has. The results from Berkley show that my Alpha is gonna do between 1-1.5 hours per WU and the SPARC in the 3-5 hour range. Looks like I may be able to do some ctaching up after all :)

that sounds a bit off...are you using client or GUI? My cele 500@600 does WU's in about 10.7 hours

I went exploring to the ARS website. Well i was looking at their benchmark scores. Their times for P3 700' s were averaging less than 4 hours! Looking at the different versons of benchmarks and the times being produced per WU were ranging from 45 minutes up i noticed in the remarks people are using the patched version. So it makes me wonder now if that team is using some kind of cheating method and maybe others too!

I cant believe they actually listed patched clients in their benchmark results. But if their using patched clients to benchmark then thy must be using patched clients to crunch too.

Of course not all results are from their team members. I know TC has a few in there and a few others from our team have results there as well

Did you saw something like SETI client 2.0 and SETI client 1.0? Those are not patched clients but other versions of the clc program.....As the project advances they have increased the number of calculation to be done by the clc. The previous version did check for triplets.....that calculation alone made an 30% increase in the times od the WU.

Well, my personal calculations from Lamb Chop say this about the chips... Of course, this does not take into acount OSs, memory speed, bus speed, ect...

1Ghz P3: 6.5Hrs/WU
1Ghz Athlon (I'm asuming Thunderbird): 6.6Hrs/WU
800Mhz G4: ??? Amazingly, they don't have one...

my.....

PIII 700 @ 1001 6.4-6.8hr/WU
Althon4 laptop @ 1G 5.6-5.8hr/WU
my sold T-bird 750 @ 1000 used to run under 6hr/WU
