Hi, I was asking about PSU's in the AMD mobo section (for a specific mobo) and it was recommended I come here. I know there are a lot of posts like this and I have checked them but I figured I should make my own. This is the deal: I can get a good price from the local computer shop on an Enlight mid-tower with a 340W PSU. This PSU has a total combined output (tco) of 180W and is AMD approved for the XP 2000+. I am using this for a system for relatives, so I don't want to put $100+ into a separate PSU but I want something stable, as I don't want it to act flakey on them.

This is going to be an "A/V" type computer, here are the specs:
ECS K7S5A mobo
XP 1700+ or 1800+ CPU
512 MB RAM
ATI AIW 7500 vid card
Creative SB Audigy
Seagate 80GB barracuda IV
LiteOn LTD-163 DVD/CD reader
CD-RW (still deciding...prob a liteon tho)
floppy, etc.

I may do some mild OC'ing (138 FSB) but only if it is super-stable. They won't be heavily multi-tasking, ie: burning CD, watching DVD, d/l from net, all at once, but will use this to do that stuff one at a time.

So, does this PSU have enough tco (180W) for that system to be stable? (which exact components for which V rails does the tco have to cover anyway?) I could not find a lot more on the enlight site, sorry...

Thanks!
MadMan

Well, I just read on a FAQ on Enlight's site that the 12V line is the key for lots of extras like drives, so other than that will this 340W PSU be OK?

I would have to say that the 340 watt power supply is plenty adequate for that machine. I have been using a 300 watt from an Enlight for several months on a T-bird 1400 system with no problems at all.

I had a 300W antec running a 1.4 with DDR, three hard drives, two CD-ROM, and there was nary a problem.
