Has anyone had the experience described?
With Win 7 the only error I got was it shut down the computer, every few days, although I was running just one GPU card, and two instances of NotFred's.
This was on my little dual quad core server, so I thought it probably had something to do with having a dual cpu.
I just changed it over to ubuntu 9.04, and it's run perfectly ever since. (using WINE for the gpu folding).

My two 9800GT Ultimates are cranking right along on Win7 ih. I've had no freezing issues to this point.
Maybe the rig is not totally stable?

Perhaps, this is the problem child p6n, however, no OC at all, strictly stock. Passed memtest with over 24 hr.s walltime.
I'm wondering- NB is on heat pipe, and usually also has a fan, but this RMA'd p6n didn't
come with one.

Humm... could be. Never owned one of those boards... does the Event Log show any error messages after you restart?
I can't believe that the NB would be too hot considering the rather large fan you have pointed at that sucker. :D

I saved the Event log to .txt for further study, didn't see anything that jumped off the page though. It appears that the event log was logging up to the final minutes that I did the hard reboot. I cleared the event log viewer so to capture future events, and will keep a close eye on those. ;)

Yay! Good going Adak...I really need to take the time to do that, but with maybe just one or two GPUs. ;)

The "anomaly" occurred again this morning. However, this time I was able to get the taskbar & desktop icons to show by doing a ctrl-alt-del and return, The Event log showed nothing unusual at all. ??? I'd like to know the cause of this, but maybe some things are just un-knowable.
The only freeze I have had that's like that, seemed to be because Win 7 wanted to reboot...or had rebooted from an MS update. Went in and chose not to install updates automatically and that was the last time I had a freeze. It took me a while to figure it out because I had lost mouse and keyboard control.

Marginal stability of the primary GPU? Tried moving them around in the slots?
Otherwise I would suggest testing a higher watt psu if you have one handy.

All the GPUs seem stable, at least none have started throwing EUE's *knocks on wood* ;)
This machine has the best PSU I have- that reminds me, I was going to set up the Kill-a-Watt to measure the draw with 4 cards running. I'll do it in the morning, I'm tired. zZzzzZz

I plugged this machine into Kill-a--watt meter and get the following wattage readings;
Idle=270w
1gpu=325w
2gpu=380w
3gpu=440w
4gpu=495w
A half a kw/h...24/7...times avg kw/h rate(SoCal Edision)= $90/mo. for this one machine.
:eek:
Your gpu's are only drawing 55 - 60 watts each?
Were they folding at that time? Sounds low to me for a folding gpu, doesn't it?

The 270W was @no fold, each successive figure was when I started the clients, one by one. The 55 - 60 watts account for the increase in wattage per card, from folding. A couple months back I measured the draw of one of my other rigs, IIRC one without a G92 type card, and @idle was about 162W. So all things being equal,
270-162=108 <-diff between no gpu's and 4 @dle
108/4=27 <-value of each additional gpu @idle
27+[(55+60)/2]=84 <-total avg addtional wattage @ 4x GPU @fold perGPU
I don't know if that all makes sense, i'm at work right now and gotta go; will revisit this later. ;)
