im just posting this in the forum cuz some others might be able to help.
i got my radeon from ati today
the cards look identical except on the part number sticker on the back has different part numbers
the one i had says made in china and the one i got from ati says made in canada
the bottom number on the fan is different too (the one under the ati logo)
the one i had says 1X2H and the one i got from ati says 184C
heres the info on the back sticker
Broken: S/N 110143 003385 Radeon 8500 64MDDR
P/N 1028570700 049933 Made In China

Rma card: (01)00727419857070(21)02142
P/N 1028570702 888888
MADE IN CANADA

the ram chips are the same, the pcb layout is the same.
one other thing is different. the number at the top left corner (where you screw it into the case) is different. the broken 8500 sayd P5 in black writing on the pcb and the new one says D7

all the other writing on the pcb is identical.
whats with the different serial and part numbers? is it just a regional thing or did i get a newer revision of the card or what?
Edit: found somthing else, on the new one the back has a black stamp that says T 41 in a circle.
im gonna install it and see if it has the same clock/mem settings as the old one

The answer is simple: The 8500 is made both in China and Canada. I bought a retail ATI and it was made in China too.

There are no major differences between the cards except place of manufacture. So far nobody on the Rage3D site has noticed any performance differences.
