Are the Shim's really worth it? What purpose do they serve? Heatsink stability on the core? Thanks, Kent :)

cpu shims keep you from chipping the core when installing heatsinks. It also suppose to distribute the weight of the sink evenly over the cpu. More of an insurance than anything else.Definitely not a waste of money.
