Starting to have this friendly debate with a member about whether certain types of the Radeon 8500 are overclocking higher than others...

Please post the following info:

Manufacturer (ATI, Powercolor, etc if known)

Default core/memory
Overclocked core/memory

3dmark2001 at default
3dMark2001 overclocked

**If you're using any mods/tweaks (including any voltage increases) to the card's hardware, please note that too...**

Thanks! This will be added to our forum's database for future reference just by replying here ;)

yeah, some of that is useful, but this was more to get the default 230 or 250 or 275 speeds and how how each one typically overclocks... so far zero posts with results :(

OK, need to clarify a bit, and yes you are being very helpful!! Are the OEMs 230 or 250 models... suspect there may be overall performance and overlcocking differences between the 2...

I wrote This (http://www.overclockers.com/tips757/) for you Pinky, and you know why?

Its cause the world love's Pinky's Linkys (http://www.aoafiles.com/)

:burn:

PS I wrote this in another thread-

"The 8500 OEM card is made by 20+ OEM manufactures and to the best of my knowledge come in these speeds:

220/220 4ns mem
230/230 4ns
249.5/249.5 4ns
249.5/249.5 3.6ns
230/250 with some with 4ns some with 3.6ns

Some boards have crippled resistors for the GPU and VMem while other OEM's are simply Retail 8500's with an Oem bios."

Trancebear,

Just curious about if your Core and Memory get 'Hot' or do they stay relativly warm like mine under load.

...Reason I ask is that some 8500's get really hot and some don't/ I'm working on this riddle.

ps Pinky, my pleasure bro.

I think it would also be very usefull to collect info on what the memory speed is on the OEM cards. The last 2 numbers on the memory chips are the speed. Retail cards like my 8500 end en 36 so the memory is 3.6
If we can find what OEM cards have the best memory that could help in what to buy.

Here the info on my Retail 8500
Bios version is: 7.004

Hi, I bought a "refurbished" card from newegg for $139, here is the info I can contribute.

Made by ATI in China, 3.6 hynix ram
default- 230/230 3dmark2001 7456

overclocked using Powerstrip, no mods- 250/250 3dmark- 7816 (picking up some artifacts) I did not try to up the core more at that time although I'm sure I could have.

overclocked after voltage mod 306/249 3dmark-8300-8400?(not really sure as I had my cpu overclocked on that test also, my actual score was 8477).

after voltage and bios flash 310/297 3dmark 8734

voltage increased using pencil as per instructions at http://www.xcl-clan.com/articles.php3?id=29 Here are my voltage measurements: before 1.62core 3.49mem, after 1.78core and 3.67memory.

After the voltage mod, I still could not get the memory over 250, so, because I had read somewhere of someone with the same problem fixing it with a bios flash,I decided to risk it. I used the flash program from the same site as the article above, and flashed my bios to Hoek's "improved retail 275/275" bios.

It worked!!! Now, like the guy whose post I had read also reported, i can not run it at slower than 250 memory speeds without display problems. I guess the bios somehow controls the memory speed?

Sorry Silversinksam, I forgot to collect my original bios info, but here is my new.

Also forgot to mention, I only have stock cooling, I'm running Windows XP Pro Corp. using the Alternate Driver - 6.13.10.3286 from ATI, I have not taken the time yet to try other drivers, any tips?
