AMD 1600, chieftec server case. i would like to make the cooling system as quiet as possible. this machine is used for audio production/recording. any suggestions? i have installed three enermax adjustable case fans, will install one of those goofy cyber fans in the slot next to agp. is there a good solution for the power supply and processor that does not involve liquids, large cooling tower buildings or gas compression?
i have lots of room, enough money, and would like the contraption to be essentially dead quiet.
thanks

What's wrong with your current setup? Noise or heat or other?
I guess you are not overclocking, you just want quiet performance.
Basicaly you wont get dead quiet without liquid.
Why, may i ask, don't you want liquid?
There are a lot of high quality liquid kits aout there and a few complete cases. Simple and easy.
Have you considered putting the machine in another room and running the USB and VGA cables to your station, to remove sound? They will go about 15'. Further if you got a little cash.

i am not overclocking because the software i use will get squirelly. yes, i just want quiet performance. i could build an enclosure (placing in another room is right out), i am not opposed to alternative cooling methods (gas, liquid, etc.), i just thought i would fish for super quiet fan, large heatsink solutions first.

This (http://www.overclockers.com/tips461/index02.asp) looks a little outragous, but hoot has a system for dialing it down to super qiuet.
On a thread he suggested the AC one and put a plain dimmer switch on it so you could dial it way down.
He mentioned they are used on Amps and sound equipment. Have you seen something simular? You might have a supplier who could get you a quite more professional model.
This guy (http://www.zerofanzone.co.uk/) loves quiet, but again he's a little outragous. Might e-mail him and have a chat.

thanks. my initial idea was to use the squirel-cage fans with ducting. these are the kind used in house hvac because a. they move a massive amount of air, and they are relatively quiet, low vibration.

That's it.
I find they tend to have squeaking noises, as hoot mentions, at slow speed. Not loud but perhaps annoying in your line of work. I thought a proffesional sound quality blower fan might be quieter.

actually, the fans tend to be large case fans, are noisy, so when critical recording takes place, usually the air is turned off, hence stuffy recording studio smell, heat, and general discomfort. nicer studios have real air conditioning, with sound dampened ducts. the newest noise is the computer, most guys build boxes for the cpu. i think i am headed for the box idea, as crude and ignominious as it may be.
thanks
